Here we go, the second half of our trip up to DC... This is where I got some of my favorite pictures. The skies started turning grey around four in the afternoon, but up until then, the weather had been absolutely gorgeous!
This is probably the closest shot I got of the mountains. It was such a nice day, it could have been late autumn instead of the beginning of January. I really enjoyed all the sunshine -- didn't even bother with sunglasses (I wore my contacts for the trip) because I didn't want to dilute it any.
Jev probably thought I was a little nuts, as many pictures as I was snapping, but I was really enjoying myself at the time.
More of the mountains... I took this picture because I liked the cloud formation sitting right over the top... it looked like a pyramid of clouds.
Usually when I'm on the road, I'll stitch, or read; but there was so much to look at and take pictures of, that I really only thought about bringing out the needlework once or twice, and then something else would say "take a picture!" before I ever got around to doing it.
Still more mountains. I like the play of sun and shadow on them in this photo; really gives them some dimension. It reminds me of how the San Gabriels used to look, when I was growing up. All these hills and mountains are such a nice change from the rolling prairie of Missouri; I think I'll like living in this sort of place.
Roanoke isn't quite so far out in the country, but still we won't be too far from it. I remember seeing a sign for some sort of equestrian center somewhere around this part of the trip, so maybe Jev and I can go hunt it down sometime, and see what it is.
I really like the color contrasts in this picture... the dark mountains against the grey skies, and the soft greenish-gold of the dry grasses in the foreground. Just a dusting of snow here and there, too. The next picture, though, is my most favorite. I'll let it speak for itself, and end my narrative here.
More to come, soon... our return trip, through Maryland.
