I've been working hard today, but from the looks of things, I've been hardly working! I spent much of the day cleaning up my HTML, going back and forth between Frontier, HomeSite, Internet Explorer and Netscape. Oh, and I can't forget http://siteinspector.linkexchange.com either.
I worked most on the main page, taking care of all of my HTML errors and inconsistencies, and cleaning up my code. (Not much I can do about Geocities' or Linkexchange's, except ditch them.) I went from two smiles on Site Inspector to four (out of five) and so it gave me an "Award" for having passed inspection.
I won't bore you with the details, but I will mention this: if your browser doesn't support stylesheets, you may think something is wrong because there won't be a background image. It's just a tradeoff between having 'correct' HTML and trying to make pages that will work in everyone's browser. Netscape 4 and IE 3 support stylesheets, to varying degrees, and by now they are both pretty stable, so if you're missing stylesheet support, you might consider upgrading. Also, if you're having any problems with the new layout, drop me a line and I'll see what I can do. I'm using IE 5 (beta), so things look a little different to me, but SiteInspector said my HTML was 100% IE compliant, so I'll take it at its word.
Purrrrrbaby came home this afternoon, and she's inspected the whole house and all her siblings, to make sure she's in the right place. I just got a real scare, having seen a cat that looked almost exactly like her walk up the driveway next door. PB's good at sneaking out, so I thought I was seeing her. I about gave Mom a heart attack, yelling "Purrrrrbaby's outside!!!!" PB, of course, was sitting on Mom's lap at the time. Figures...
Funny, but it's not all that hard to think of her as being female, even after thinking she was a boy for five months. She's always had a sweet disposition, and a soft voice. Now it's hard to think that we'd mistaken her for a male. Weird... I was sure that was something that would take some getting used to.
I don't know where Jev is, and I'm starting to get a bit worried. At first I thought that maybe the campus lost its net connection, because nobody I know at VT is online. I can ping Jev's machine though, so that must not be the case. Still, he said he'd be back around 4 his time, and he's over two hours late.
I try not to worry too much, though... he most likely got asked for help, or invited to a game, or started to play games when he didn't see me online at four (we had to go get PB), and will be back any time now. At least I hope so!
On the 'what I want to do with myself' front, I did some more surfing last night, and found that Radford College has both an English program and a Computer Science program with classes I'd be interested in. One problem though is that it's about 36 miles from Roanoke, so that would be a bit of a commute.
After I went to bed, I let my mind wander, and I realized: If I'm going to try to run my own business, I really should have at least a minor in business, if not a major. So... a major in business, and a minor in English, with a concentration in Technical Writing, and few computer science classes thrown in for good measure? I'm actually starting to formulate a plan!
But then I got to thinking: My body just can't handle going to school full time, even if transportation isn't a problem. It's just too much stress for me. *sigh*
So, what I really need to do is find a school where I can lay out what I want to study, and take just those classes, and be able to do it on my own timeframe. Assuming I could find a place where I could do that and not have to pay a thousand bucks (or even half that) per class, I'd be happy. I can probably manage three courses a semester, as long as they aren't too terribly time-consuming. But part of me would like some sort of degree for my effort, even if it's just an Associate's degree. I don't know right now if that's even possible.
