It's already past midnight, and I'm waiting in the Scrabble™ lobby for a game with another friend before bed... I'm glad tomorrow is Tuesday... it means I don't have to get up early to talk to Jev before class, because his first class is at 11. After nearly pulling an all-nighter last Thursday night, I think I'm finally getting back on a normal schedule again.
The snow is falling quietly outside... if I turn out the lights, I can look out at the blanket of white. So much for no more winter this year... of course as I think I said on Groundhog Day, if the groundhog had been here he would have seen his shadow. Oh well.. In two more weeks, my sweetie will be here and we can curl up together and stay warm.
Uh oh, my opponent is ready...time to get whapped, be back soon!
I got whapped good... knew I would. She's a good opponent, and she was on a roll tonight. A Jellie Roll, you might say. Okay, less silliness, more about my day, before I collapse for the night.
Mom wanted to go out to lunch, and we added in trips to the bank (wow, I had money left after my spending spree the past couple months!!), and Wallyworld. Mom wanted to be in and out of WW in about 40 minutes, but I headed to the 'lectronics department.
I was just cruising the aisles to see if there was anything new, and there was a lady maybe in her late forties or early fifties, looking at the mice on display, and one of the associates trying to help her. After watching for a few minutes and trying to figure out what she was needing, I decided to see if I could help. I don't usually do that... hate having to talk to strangers, but she seemed like a nice enough lady, and puzzled by her problem.
Turns out her mouse had started misbehaving, not always scrolling well, and skipping around the screen and so on. She was going to get a replacement and was puzzled over the odd connector. Since she had it with her, I asked if she'd mind if I looked at it, and she said to go right ahead. I twisted the ring retainer open, tipped it over and dropped the ball into my other hand, and took a look inside. Fuzz had collected on the rollers, and I suspected that might be her problem, and told her as much.
She'd been looking at a $50 mouse, not sure if it would work with her connector (serial connector, but some of the holes looked larger and so she was unsure). I told her the rollers were a lot like a vacuum's roller brush, and could get jammed if there was stuff wrapped around them, and explained she could probably pull the stuff out with a small pair of tweezers, and it should work again.
I also told her that any of the mice with the serial adapter should work fine, if it turned out she did have to replace it. I hope it helped her some... I enjoy being helpful, and it feels good to be useful. She was very nice and said she'd try the defuzz operation and see if that helped. It didn't occur to me to ask if she was online; I'd have happily given her my e-mail address if she had further problems. Oh well... I feel good for at least doing something other than walking on by.
Even with the extra time spent helping the Mouse Lady, a trip back to the craft section, and another side trip over to the magazine section, I didn't do too badly. It never occurred to me when Mom said she wanted to be done at 2, to see if I had my watch. I didn't, so when I met her at the entrance, she teased me about being late... by five whole minutes! Another lady who was sharing the bench with her chuckled at our mock argument. Why can't we get along like that all the time?
Came home, and between being stuffed, walking a marathon at WallyWorld, and the coooold weather we've been having, I was pretty much inclined to spend the rest of the afternoon curled up in front of the computer, talking to Jev on netmeeting.
We had a nice evening, despite the fact that there seem to be some things bothering him, and even he isn't sure what they are. I try to be as supportive as I can, but I wish he knew what was going on, and I wish there was something I could do to help.
He climbed up into bed around 10:30 or so my time, and I caught up on mail while he slowly fell asleep. My IRC friends were all on the Zone for Scrabble, so when Jev and I said goodnight, I killed netmeeting and fired up the CD-ROM, and played a couple games. Got beat both times, but I'm doing better... more consistent, I think. I still have yet to win a game on the ladder, but maybe some day.... soon.
Time for me to crawl out of my chair and off to bed. It's been a good day.
