Sharifa and I, having tea at the Gresham hotel. Melissa and I had tea here in 2000.
At the new Guinness Storehouse, which is quite flashy. When I was here in 2000 it was the "Guinness Hopstore" but they have revamped it to attract more tourists. Here is Jurjen underneath a waterfall on the ground floor exhibit, showing the ingredients of Guinness.
So, water is an ingredient, and so is yeast. Guinness has its own strain of yeast now.
Sharifa and Jurjen reading all about yeast and hops.
You can see my amusement as I read that there are apparently "gynecological uses" for hops.
This old warehouse at St.James's Gate is all done up now with lots of writing everywhere. This is something about people trying to turn things into gold, and in a sense Arthur Guinness turned water, hops, barley and yeast into gold, I suppose.
Sharifa and Carolyn look at Arthur Guinness's desk (or similar) while a crashingly boring montage plays in the background.
Jurjen likes trains! This exhibit is how Guinness started getting delivered outside Ireland and now it's huge all over the world. We were pleased to see the Irish pub we visited in Abu Dhabi on the list of purveyors of Guinness. Jurjen has a joke that the prehistoric ruins unearthed in France had paintings, a fire pit, and an Irish pub.
At the top of the building is the Gravity Bar, where you can collect a free pint (part of your entrance fee) and look over Dublin.
The view of Dublin was fantastic - what a lovely day! We are looking towards the bay here, you can barely make out that there's water in the distance. |
