FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ASK ME WHAT IT IS LIKE TO LIVE IN SOUTH AFRICA:

I always find it difficult to answer THAT one in three brief sentences, lol

The time in South Africa is now:

Personal reminisces of our first democratic elections.

A letter written by my then 82 year old great great grandmother to her grandchildren in March 1918, telling them the story of her life. It includes the story of how she settled in South Africa in the nineteenth century, just after the Anglo-Zulu war. A very powerful People's History.
If you want to know some of the realities of living in South Africa in the pioneer days, take the time to read this.

In 1993, I conducted research on how women in some of Cape Town's low-income areas experience childbirth in clinics. If this interests you, take a look.

A brief account of a short trip to Pilanesberg and the Drakensberg in February 1998. The first 'travel report' I placed on this page, it has limited travel information - hey, I had to start somewhere! Still, it might be of interest.

If you are building a website which has anything to do with South Africa, be sure to take a look at my technical help page. Made up of links and tips useful to all those creating pages, it has some links which will be particularly useful to you - including South African clip art and search engines.

SOUTH AFRICAN LINKS THAT I'VE FOUND TO BE INFORMATIVE, ENTERTAINING OR USEFUL IN SOME WAY:

Update: 11 November 2002: I first put this page together in 1997. Unfortunately, many of the websites originally linked to this page no longer exist. I've pruned the list considerably, so it is a little 'thin' at the moment. But watch this space - I'll be adding links to worthwhile sites soon.

Take a look at Madam & Eve, my all-time favourite comic strip (but be warned...it is a social commentary on the South Africa situation, so non-South Africans might not always "get" it). Madam & Eve play an important part in my ongoing current affairs awareness - I still look to the Madam & Eve books to understand what was going on in South Africa during the two years I was away!
Madam & Eve - come on in, SOMEONE has to do the ironing!

Or, check out the current action at a waterhole in Djuma Game Reserve....if you're lucky you might catch a heffalump...although, as my sister Gjenny says, its "just like the real thing - stare for hours and see nothing - lol"
