Caged

We sit upon the steps of life and wonder at the chaos that surrounds. Sunlight filters through reality and leaves a yellow mask upon the dreams of tomorrow. All around us the green of the trees, the blue of the sky falls and paints the world with its smile.
We listen to the silence and speak words never spoken before. We follow life's reflection and slip into the oblivion of ignorance only to stare at the colors of knowledge. Greens, blues, reds... all mixing together, weaving into a cloth of the finest virtue to wrap around this fallen psyche.
The stormy clouds of our history are lost in the glow of the sun. Nuclear winters, Indian summers, a season of warmth and betrayal. We are together. Voices enter our mind, but they are not our own. Minute fantasies break through their words and are lost in the currents of the world. We are never deceived.
The worker ants of society build an iron curtain around our heart. They hide the depths of our soul with concrete oceans and internet watch dogs. And yet, the sun shines through, a mask upon our illness and a door unto our thrown. We speak to listen and wait to speak again. It is the colors that nurture, the mind that betrays. No one is alone in this chaos, for all in this have died, purple in the moonlight.
The golden rays of sunshine still dance upon our tears. A lion's roar reminds us that once again we are caged. Artificial greens and blues pretend to be our world, but still we are lost in this concrete jungle. We are not deceived. We are simply crying. Too deaf to speak, too lost to think, too dead to live.
We sit upon the stairs of this life and wonder at the bars upon our cage. The setting sun removes our mask, the stormy clouds return and once again our eyes reflect the face of an infant soul yet to be born into this chaos. We are the ancestors. We are the gods. Why are we caged?
