Depression is a condition which can range from mild, brief periods of sadness to serious incapacitating illness and even (rarely) psychosis. Symptoms include sadness, apathy, feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness, change in activity level, withdrawal from friends and family, insomnia or hypersomnia, change in appetite and/or weight, difficulty concentrating, thoughts of suicide or death, loss of sexual desire and fatigue.

If you are thinking about suicide, please get help immediately from a professional counselor. Milder cases of depression can be treated by self-help. This 'site is intended to provide information and support for women with depression and their friends and family. I am not a mental health professional, but I have had plenty of experience with depression personally.

Women are almost twice as likely to suffer from depression than men for a variety of reasons. Check out this APA 'site: What You should Know About Women and Depression. Most of the information on our 'site can be helpful to men as well as women.
