NeedleHearts

We would like to get more donations to crochet blankets and hand and foot coverings for soldiers. Won't you please donate your unwanted yarn.

I hope to have a crocheting/knitting group get together once a week to make these items for the soldiers.  It will be through my church or community center. That is, if we get enough yarn donations.

We need yarn donations to make blankets for wounded Soldiers

See our thank you list at the bottom of this page.

This is what NeedleHearts used to do. (press release below)  All cross stitch donations were donated in 2005 and no more donations were available.  We now seek yarn, quilting blocks and other such items to make blankets for wounded soldiers.

Press release from 1997 -----The NeedleHearts Group is seeking donations of needle type crafts for people who are in emergency storm shelters and to help replenish supplies lost due to any type of disaster. If you have any needle work such as cross stitching, plastic canvas, tatting, embroidery, crewel, yarn goods and accessories or the like that you would wish to donate, please mail your donations (or bring them by) to our local Virginia Address:

NeedleHearts, Attn: Chris Webb, 890 Radford Street, Christiansburg VA 24073. NeedleHearts would like to obtain any needlework which is in good condition. It may be as kit you never finished (or even started),
supplies (which Stitchers call their "stash") of embroidery floss, yarn, needles, accessories, hoops, charts or leaflets, fabric and the like, that you longer desire. We would hope that you would donate your "cast off's" to NeedleHearts. The kits do not have to be complete as we will sort out and put together packages from what has been donated. All donated items (100%) will be mailed or shipped to others in the United States and/or Canada after some type of (natural) disaster. All persons who work at shipping these items and sorting out the stash, work as volunteers.
NeedleHearts was originally named (name withheld as ads on the side of this web site from yahoo are misleading) with the River flooding in Ohio, that flooded people out of their homes. A group of women in the area of the
Color of the River name withheld River began collecting goods to deliver to shelter, where the people were, in essence, living until the
river dropped to below flood stage. These people had nothing to do and nowhere to go. The stash relief was offered to needle workers , to keep their hands and mind occupied and to renew their stash that may have been lost in the floods and/or subsequent fires.
The announcement of this group was posted to the Internet needlework news group entitled, "Recreation, Crafts, Textiles, Needlework's," who would post messages about friends and family who had not much to do at the shelters and greatly missed doing their needlework. The group was recently asked to change the name of the organization, by another existing group using the words stash relief in their business name. They have been in business longer than RRSR, so the group adopted NeedleHearts. The
Color River was not the only area to flood last year, and the relief program has grown to encompass all the US and Canada, with one national mailing address and a couple of regional addresses. Our national address is: NeedleHearts now closed now removed from this press release
NeedleHearts was founded by Pam Kalar, of MN, who spent more than 500 total hours sorting and kitting donated items for the
Color River Area, and continued by Sara D now closed. It is the hope of the NeedleHearts people that they will never have a need to use the donated items, but are ready to assist fellow Stitchers in a much needed moral boost when necessary.
One our Florida members, Ms Massey was asking for yarn. "The Red Cross volunteers and myself are doing fine, but what I could really use is some more knitting/crocheting items. If you can rally them up. We have several requests for these activities from older ladies who lost their homes and must stay with relatives and so their entire home-life routines are gone," reports Massey this past Monday. "They need something to do to fill their time now that they can't come and go as they please any longer (dependant on someone else for transportation, or wanting to 'stay out of the way' as much as possible to be less of a burden on their relatives.) The are terribly bored and one lady , Bless her Heart, wants to make things for others who can't make things, but need hats and socks and blankets. This lady knits like wildfire! I have never seen someone knit so fast by hand."
NeedleHearts would like to stress that we are not a registered "not for profit group." With all the people that are dependant on us to get gifts out, we are just sorting the donated items and shipping them. We can not accept any monetary funds, but you could help be sending stamps or a postal money order made out to NeedleHearts For Shipping Only, to help us pay the postage to ship the items. If you wish to help please send your items . If you have questions write us or send e-mail to msvirginia99@yahoo.com  Phone # is a work number to reach me 540-
