Weston Hit for Six as Plate Bounce Back Avon Plate made it three league wins in a row this Sunday leap-frogging Lawrence Weston to go into the top three of the league following this explosive, sometimes viscious encounter. From the kick-off Lawrence Weston set out to unsettle the Plate flying in with unsavoury challenges all over the park. It made little difference, based on a solid performance at the back and a epic performance by Chris Thomas in the centre of midfield, Avon Plate produced their most consistent performance of the season and came away with the points they deserved. Plate dominated the opening quarter of the game, laying siege on the Weston goal. It didn't take long to crack, Jack Sant placing his right footed shot across the keeper after Yos nodded down. Unlike previous games this only acted to spur the Plate to greater efforts and following a series of corners Yos was on hand to pick up the pieces in the six yard box and make it two. Just before half time Weston did manage to put some play together but Bill was alert enough to save sharply, low to his left, with virtually his first touch of the game. Half Time 0 : 2 Ten minutes into the second half the game was done and dusted. Winning a loose ball on the edge of his own box Mike Marsh drove forward up the left wing. Just over half way he released Yos on the touch line and continued his run, receiving the ball as he entered the box, as the defender tried to push him wide, Marsh cut back with a turn Johann Cruyff would have enjoyed before curling the ball right footed into the far corner. It was only the second goal of his Plate career and how the crowd loved it. In the face of this total football from the Plate it was becoming clear that Weston were becoming more and more frustrated. The frustration was soon to boil over after they missed a penalty following a highly dubious decision against Tommo. Once again tackles flew in and due to the inaction of the referee off the ball incidents started to flare up all over the ground. For a brief spell it looked like the Plate might wobble when a poor goal kick let Weston in for a simple score, but minutes later they were put firmly back in there place by an absolute scorcher from Jacko. By now this kind of finishing had made Jack a marked man and finally another bad challenge on the striker led to a major round of handbags in the middle. Again , amazingly, the ref took no action against Weston although punches were clearly thrown. It made no difference, Plate kept their heads scoring two more, another stunner by Damien, dribbling into the heart of the box before cooly slotting home, and a second for Yos. Not even a second goal was of any consolation to a thoroughly beaten Lawrence Weston. Plate march on... Lawrence Weston 2 : 6 Avon Plate |
