29/03/2001
In an extraordinary meeting of the Gloucstershire FA this week Easton Cowboys won their appeal to be reinstated into the league. A spokesman for the GFA denied the presence of 200 armed and balaclavered Zapatistas had any bearing on the decision. 26/03/2001 The mighty Plate enjoyed one of the greatest days in their history today. In the semi-final of the Charles Finch cup Plate were 2-0 down with 20 minutes to go before goals from Matt Proctor and Tony Bowles (in the dying seconds) forced the tie into extra time. With minutes remaining before the dreaded penalties Yos David grabbed the winner which took the Plate through to their first major cup final. Well done to the lads. Details of the final will be published in the following weeks. 19/03/2001 Two devastating losses in two weeks look like they have dealt a crushing blow to the Plates promotion push. After going down to 4th placed White Tree last week Avon Plate suffered another set back at 5th placed HFB. "It all went wrong when the ball needed pumping up" lamented Plate supremo Comrade Boulton, "we totally lost concentration. It was the same last week, if that car alarm hadn't gone off in the 3rd minute we would have walked it. I'm gutted Bob" 01/03/2001 Avon Plate kept up the pressure on Division 4's top two this week with a convincing 6 - 1 demolision of Wizard Wanderers at the Bush. Elsewhere results over the last two weeks have been pretty good for the Plate. Both HFB and White Tree have dropped points of late allowing the teams above, Nailsea and the Plate, to pull away. Click here for the table. 28/02/2001 The Bristol and District League was rocked to it's foundations today at an extraordinary League meeting. The committee announced that due to administrative irregularities both Easton Cowboys teams were to be suspended from the league for the rest of the season. The Plate had yet to face the Cowboys this season but were looking forward to meeting their Revolutionary comrades on the field of play. In recent years the Cowboys have made two trips to support the Zapatista uprising in Chiapas, Mexico and rumours abound that the real reason for their suspension was a vendetta pursued by anti revolutionary reactionaries who hold positions of power in the league. The mighty Avon Plate offer
their sympathy and support to the Easton Cowboys.

11/02/2001 Avon Plate will enjoy a rest this Sunday after a busy post Christmas schedule. Playing four games in a month on heavy pitches came as something of a shock to the players after the weeks of inactivity before the festive period and if it were not for the remarkable playing surface at their beloved Bush it would of been highly unlikely that even these games could of been staged. Sundays 3 : 1 win over Bishopston Utd ended Plate's run of three league defeats, a run that had seen them slump to 6th their lowest league position all season, and pushed them back into 3rd spot albeit with more games played than their rivals. However the recent dip in form is put in perspective by the quality of opposition the Plate have faced. Apart from a dissappointing loss to 4th placed HFB in trying cicumstances, the Plates remaining three defeats this season have been at the hands of Division 4's runaway leasders The Fellowship and second placed SB Wanderers, both of whom have 100% records for the season. None of the teams bubbling under the top four have had such a tricky start to the campaign and although they may have games in hand over the Plate they'll be playing catch up as the Argentine army begin what is on form a relatively easy period of the season.

10/01/2001 The new England manager Sven Goran Eriksson has put a trip to the Bush top of his priority list it was revealed yesterday. "When I dream of the crimson tide that will take me to my glorious everlasting place in the great hall of Valhalla I know that it will be amongst the warriors of the mighty Avon Plate that I take my seat" Mr Eriksson claimed in his first major press conference since taking up the post of England manager. "Joe Cole or Damien Butt, at the end of the day, it's a toss up" he added.
