...Dan Quayle... Fear not to anyone, this is neither an endorsement, nor a rejection. But as we all know, he has an image of being incredibly stupid...trying to spell potato, accusing Murphy Brown (a fictional character) of being a bad mother, or the cause of the unwed mothers in this country...something like that. However well or ill-deserved these memories are, they are there. What does this have to do with anything? In my class on Congress this morning, we were discussing all the stupid things he did and of course, since I have focusing problems, my mind drifted. It drifted back to the last night of the play I was in, "The Women of Troy". This past Monday night, we were all in the dressing room getting ready and I made some slightly stupid comment, that if said in front of my friends, they would have understood or at least asked for an explanation. But no, one of the other actresses, who has a nasty habit of being...well, nasty, turned and said, "Did you ever think of tape recording everything you say so that you can listen to yourself in twenty years and hear how stupid you sound?" !!!!!!!!!! Hello! Where the hell does she get off saying that to me? Though unfortunately, she has a point, even if she didn't know it. I say a lot of stupid things and I screw up constantly. And this morning, I realized that if I went into a public field, I would become the next Dan Quayle. I would be the one everyone tried to avoid being associated with. |
