my

Bluehooks Diary

I started doing this diary in June, it's quite new. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

Thursday 16th July

Forced, by the facts of life rapidly catching up with me, to spend a day doing indoor stuff even though it was a really nice day outside. I deliberately stayed in my pajamas all day otherwise I knew I would be lured into the field or out on a wood run or helping Lorna with the chainsaw or something like that. Much as I would actually rather have been doings those things I had to do the boring paper and computer stuff.

When I got up there was a phone message from the Occupational Therapist to say that the funding has now been approved for my new arm. The parts are being ordered now so I just have to wait until it is built. I was begining to give up hope on that one. This is very good news indeed. There was also a message from the WIT meeting and I called them back and got requests for several ammendments to be picked up tonight. Got that lot out of the way first and also designed the tickets.

Spent a lot of time on the phone trying to sort out the video problem. Apple tech support were, frankly, useless, Computer Warehouse were only interested in selling stuff and I resorted to e-mailing Strata who make the software I was trying to print from because there was no tech support line outside the US., they haven't responded. Also spoke to Hertz car rental and found out that I can hire a car which would be suitably adapted for me to drive from Grand Rapids Airport, which is great news.

Just as I was about to try the video thing one last time the electricty went off, first I thought I'd done something wrong but then I saw the video deck and the telephone were all off as well. Spent the hour it was off writing cheques for bills and composing a letter which I had been dreading doing and finding excuses to avoid for nearly a week. Typed that out once the electric was back on and caught up with several e-mails. The video thing didn't work so I grabbed a bit more stuff from the tapes since the machine was going to be taken away later and resigned myself to providing Clare with the titles on paper. This is a far too low-tech solution and I'm not at all happy about it. One thing this excersise has achieved is to spur me into finding out more about extra hardware I can get to make this process better and maybe a digital video camera too, there's a catalogue on its way.

Finally got all the work done sometime after dinner. Clare came to collect the video deck and the titles and Katherine came to collect the WIT stuff and then I was left alone for a while to do what I actually wanted to be doing which was working on my diary index. Its ready now, I just need to split the files into days and it will all work much better.

That's quite enough, I've been on this computer all day and my shoulder hurts.
