my

Bluehook's Diary

I started doing this diary in June. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

Today I have been a geek. I have been a geek all day long. Well, first I had my coffee and then the parcel arrived and as soon as I had done the stuff with the ashes and taken the rubbish down I started the upgrading process which involved me behaving like a geek all day. I had to install the new Norton Utilities first and then fix my hard disk into the best state I could get it into. I knew I was a geek when I sat watching the hard disk defragment and thought this was rather entertaining. It took forever, but that's because I was being impatient. Then a major backup had to follow before I could install OS 8.5. The 16 minutes or so it took to do a clean install were really rather nerve-wracking but everything seemed ok. Even after I moved my heaps of dodgy extensions and control panels back into the system folder it all still seemed ok. In fact it still does seem ok, much to my incredulity. I haven't tried everything though. I've also upgraded to Freehand 8.0 and loaded up Flash 3.0 and started to read the manual. Right now I'm indexing my hard drive and that, it tells me, will be a further four hours, I started doing it 2 hours ago. Yikes.

And if any Mac users are wondering whether to bother with 8.5, my opinion, based on what I've seen so far is that you might as well. I haven't even tried Sherlock out on the internet yet but if it is all it's cracked up to be then it's very useful. I like the bells and whistles, it is excessive, but I happen to like that kind of thing, I like all sorts of things about it actually and best of all my copy of Easy Access still works.
