THE MIDDLE YEARS The Middle Years

Ah, the middle years; dropping out of college, going into the army, and finally ending up in Houston, Texas. In my early 20's and with the concept that I could do almost anything I wanted employment-wise, I started to search for the perfect job. For years "perfect job" was defined as one I would find continually challenging and always a joy to be a part of each day. So, I went from mail room clerk, to operation manager of a national retail store, to teaching, counseling, artist, real estate closing officer, legal foreclosure officer, and politics. Each job offered its own individual challenge, but all too soon boredom and repetion set in and I would move on. The one exception was politics, art, and my volunteerism.

To me, Politics is the only game in town! I loved it then and it still plays a major role in my life. If you can keep your standards and values high, politics can be a wonderful life. Each day offering a new challenge. A new challenge, that if resolved, offered me great satisfaction. I was lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time. Shortly, local and national magazines took note of my work which resulted in several articles about my life and work. And although I was now openly gay in Houston and to my immediate family, the national attention (fifteen minutes of fame) resulted in a call to my parents to let them know that if any aunts, uncles, cousins still did not know about my lifestyle; that Newsweek was fixing to remedy that situation. I should mention at this point that my parents, brother and sister accepted this part of my life completely...without judgement or condemnation. And for this acceptance I am greatful every day!

The political job lasted six years. During which time I met my third lover. This meeting was to lead me once again down a different life path.

That about ends this thumbnail sketch of my life. I find myself now back at the beginning of a circle. A little older and wiser but hopefully still capable of providing a service and seeking the next challenge! If you are interested in some of the stuff that fits in between the lines of my life, then all I can offer is a few brief paragraphs.

LOVE AND DEATH
