The Cat Lord
(Demigod, N)

Description:

General Aspect:
God of Felines: The Cat Lord, or Master Cat, is the ruler of all forms of felines, from domestic cats through the giant lynx to the largest of smilodons. The Cat Lord is neither good nor evil but concerned with cat-things alone.

Worshippers:
Felines of all types, including humanoid. The Cat Lord has no general clerics, only specialty priests, though these are often multi-classed thieves, fighters, and/or mages.

Holy Items:

The Cat Lord has neither holy symbol nor holy water. Cat Lord devotees usually are attracted to baubles which they consider to be "lucky," and which perform for them as holy symbols; however, the lucky object need not be particularly valuable, only interesting; and the devotee may drop that object for another when he/she bores of it.

Holy Areas:

Cat lord worshippers prefer cozy, dark places. Soft ground or bedding and warmth enhance the worth of the spot.

Any feline.

Preferred Weapons
(in order of preference):
Natural weapons are most strongly preferred. Any small bladed weapons, ranging in size from claw/nekode to short sword, are acceptable. Weapons larger than 3 feet are not permitted. Allowed missile weapons include thrown weapons, slings, hand or light crossbows, and short bows.

Armor:

Padded, leather, studded leather, or elven chain. Only small helmets that do not cover the face or ears are allowed, shields are not permitted.

Magical Items:

Priests of the Cat Lord can use any magical items normally available to priests.

Non-weapon Proficiencies:

Required: Alertness, Blind-fighting, Jumping, Tumbling. Preferred: Animal Handling, Animal Lore, Animal Traning, Dancing, Direction Sense, Fishing, Herbalism, Hunting, Intimidation, Observation, Set Snares, Singing, Tightrope Walking.

Miscellaneous Restrictions:

Priests of the Cat Lord may not wear hard-soled shoes or boots. They may only eat meat and dairy products; this restriction causes many priests to lose the ability to properly digest plant foods, causing vomiting or diarrhea if ingested. Cat priests do not automatically read nor write, though they may learn that proficiency if they so wish; if they do not, they will be unable to use priest or protection scrolls. Priests of the Cat Lord are restricted to the 12th level.

Area of Effect: Priest
Saving Throw: None
Frequency of Use: 1/day/level

Lick Wounds
Range: Touch
Duration: Permanent
Preparation Time: 2 seg.
Area of Effect: 1 creature
Saving Throw: None
Frequency of Use: 1/day/level
Minimum Level: 2

This granted power enables the priest of the Cat Lord to Lick the Wounds of himself or a friend. The priest literally licks the injury, his or her saliva acting as a healing salve, and restoring 2-8 hit points to the recipient. The licking takes a full round to complete, but this can be interrupted by as long as two rounds if necessary.

Ultravision
Range: Self
Duration: Constant
Preparation Time: None
Area of Effect: Priest
Saving Throw: None
Frequency of Use: Constant
Minimum Level: 2

Starting at second level, all priests of the Master Cat who do not already have ultravision gain this ability. Cat priests are able to see in the dark to a range of 30 feet. At sixth level, the range increases to 60 feet, at ninth level to 90 feet, and at twelfth level, to 120 feet.

Land on Feet
Range: Self
Duration: Instantaneous
Preparation Time: None.
Area of Effect: Priest
Saving Throw: None
Frequency of Use: Constant
Minimum Level: 3

Priests of the Cat Lord who reach the third level share with their lord the ability to always land on their feet, unharmed, ready for action, from any jump, throw, or fall of thirty feet or less. In addition, for each level over third, the priest can fall an additional ten feet without injury.

Cat Fancy
Range: Self
Duration: Continuous
Preparation Time: None
Area of Effect: Self
Saving Throw: None
Frequency of Use: Constant
Minimum Level: 4

The priest of the Cat Lord is recognized and revered among his or her kind. Felines of any sort must be under severe duress to attack the cat priest. Otherwise, felines are instantly two levels more friendly toward the priest than they would otherwise be inclined. Priests of the Cat Lord of higher level are unaffected. The priest can also communicate empathically with any feline, and can grasp the rudiments of any feline language. At 8th level, the priest can communicate telepathically with any feline, and can converse in any feline language.

Spit
Range: 1 ft/level
Duration: 1 turn/level
Preparation Time: 1 seg.
Area of Effect: 1 creature
Saving Throw: Neg.
Frequency of Use: 1/day/level
Minimum Level: 4

The priest of the Cat Lord can blind an opponent by Spitting caustic saliva into his, her, or its eyes. The target must successfully save vs. Breath Weapon to avoid the effect. The priest can use this attack before a normal melee attack with no penalty (but cannot cast spells in the same round).

Yowl
Range: None
Duration: 1d4 rounds
Preparation Time: 2 seg.
Area of Effect: 15 foot radius
Saving Throw: Neg.
Frequency of Use: 1/day
Minimum Level: 5

Using this power, the priest of the Cat Lord can unleash a piercing Yowl, stunning all non-felines in the area of effect who fail their saving throw vs. Spell. The priest cannot perform any other actions in that round. Stunned creatures will be unable to move, attack or defend. Creatures without a sense of hearing will be unaffected, but all undead are affected, and are at -2 to their save.

Shapechange
Range: Self
Duration: 1 day
Preparation Time: 1 round
Area of Effect: Self
Saving Throw: None
Frequency of Use: 1/month/level
Minimum Level: 9

Cat priests of great stature can shift their shape. Using this power, the priest can take the form of a domestic cat, a big cat (panther, lion, jaguar, etc.), or a human. The priest's pigmentation stays essentially the same in whatever feline shape he or she takes; in human form, the predominant pigment is chosen for the skin and any other pigmentation is translated into the colors of his or her clothing, which is magically created. Any gear besides clothing and jewelry worn by the priest is left behind in the Shapechange. The Shapechange lasts no longer than one day, though the priest can revert to his or her natural form at any time. This power can only be used once in a day.

Turning Undead:
Priests of the Cat Lord turn undead as normal. The priest lets loose a caterwauling cry which is capable of driving the undead away or even destroying them.

Ethos:
The Cat Lord cares for little other than protecting the interests of his minions. He does occasionally get curious and meddles in the affairs of other mortal creatures, but his amusement is usually short-lived.

Hierarchical Organization:
The worshippers of the Cat Lord are organized only in so far as their own societies are organized. The priests of the Master Cat do not have a hierarchical church. Respect for elders is widely recognized among Cat priests, but non-lethal dominance fights infrequently occur. Ceremonies consist of little more than yowling at the moon, hunting, and giving thanks for food. Once in a great while (no more than once in five years), all the priests of the Cat Lord and many of his worshippers gather in some uninhabited spot to commune with their master.
