I discovered the works of Christopher Hinz quite by accident...His name caught my eye on a bookshelf because MY last name is Hinz, and my brother's name is Christopher. Quite a bit of serendipity, eh? He turned out to be a fairly good SF writer, although Anachronisms is a bit dry in places.  He also wrote a series of comics called "Gemini Blood" for DC's now-failed Helix comics line that was a prequel to the Paratwa series.

Terry Pratchett is a funny, funny writer and satirist. Although he had been around for a long time before, I first discovered him when he collaborated with Neil Gaiman on Good Omens, and I have loved his work ever since. The three novels listed above are from his Discworld series, a strange fantasy realm, with many odd inhabitants. Highly Recommended

Neverwhere

Neil Gaiman

****½

Neil Gaiman, who is best known for writing the award-winning DC comic Sandman, is one of my favorite fantasy writers, and his collaboration with Pratchett on Good Omens resulted in a very funny take on the Apocalypse (which will happen on Saturday), the Antichrist (an eleven-year-old, who really likes the earth the way it is), and an Angel and a Demon who get along better than you'd think. Highly Recommended.

I was first introduced to Rick Cook's work by my good friend Jeremy.  I think he described it best when he said "This Guy is cool - he must've played D&D at some time."  The "Wizardry" series is peppered with bad puns and computer in-jokes that might be funny to the average reader, but are downright hilarious to someone who knows program hacking.
