You may have a desire to have a fleet, a battle squad, or just a single ship under your control. Good and bad news on this. Good news is, you can have whatever you like! The bad news is, only IF you have the points to pay for it, or you are willing to go into debt. There are 5 main classes for starships: Freighter, Class A, Class B, Class C, and Class D. Freighter includes everything from starfighters and small freighters up to 99 meter long bulk transports. Class A includes such ships as Corellian Corvettes (150 meters) and Nebulon B Frigates (300 meters), but includes freighter size ships with Capital ship output (ie; Skipray Blastboats). Class B includes Carrack Cruisers (350 meters) and Victory Star Destroyers (900 meters). Class C includes Mon Cal-80's (varying w/1200 meters on average) and Imperial Star Destroyers (1600 meters). Class D ships are discussed later, and there are larger vessels as well.
So let's say you want to buy 27 freighters. You buy the first 5 ships at 5 points each. Then you buy the other 22 vessels for 3 points each. This will cost you 91 points. If you wanted to buy 29 Class B ships, you would pay 15 points each for the first 5, 12 points each for the next 5, 9 points each for the last 10 ships, and 6 points each for the last 9 ships - for a total of 279 points (which makes buying a huge fleet without entering point debt just a bit harder, eh Mr. Larn?)
CLASS D CAPITAL SHIPS: Simply put, 2,501-10,000 meter vessels. The Imperial Super Star Destroyers are in this class. If you want 1-5 ships of this class, you will need to clear it with me first. If you want more than this, you will need to start your own web site. Class D capital ships are 50 points each!
CLASS E and beyond? (might as well call it Class X): Vessels larger than Class D will be considered Class E (for now). Examples for Class E are ships such as the Sovereign and Eclipse Super Star Destroyers found in the Dark Empire comic series by Dark Horse Comics (Milwaukee, OR! Just 20 minutes from my front door!). Use of these ships shall be heavily restricted (unfortunately), to prevent abuse of firepower and upset of the game balance. Having even one of these ships requires my approval (I don't even use them very often and my character Domino has a couple). 100 points for one!
IMPORTANT!!!!!
ALL POINTS COSTS STATED HERE ARE FOR BUYING SHIPS AT CHARACTER CREATION ONLY!
I had to state that or my rules for ship modification would be meaningless.
After character start-up, point cost for ships increases.
Go here to see the list of ships available, as well as check out the point costs of ships.
Players with Task Forces or Battle Groups may want to alter them from time to time. To add ships to such a group, there are two methods:
a.) buying a new ship flat out, and
b.) trading in other ships.
The first method of altering a Task Force size is very simple. To get the new ship, spend the required amount of points for it as described in the ship file. The other method is a little more tricky. When a ship is traded in, a player receives an amount of General points equal to 75% of the old ship's point value. These points can then be used to purchase other ships, modify starfighter squadrons, or whatever else you may like to do.
Example: Admiral Delsin finds that he needs an Imperial-Class Star Destroyer Mark II for an upcoming battle. He has two Carrack Cruisers that he wants to get rid of, so he trades them in. The Carrack Cruiser has a point cost of 320, so its' trade in value (75% of the original) is 240 points. Two Carrack Cruisers would be worth 480 points in trade in. The Imperial Star Destroyer Mark II costs 500 points, so Delsin would then need to spend 20 more points to buy the ship!
