The son of a Tark (Prince), Tarak's quest to survive and discover his heritage takes him from
the cages, pits, and creatures which encompassed his life within the mountain fortress of Gonor, the brutal scientist, to the high, wind-swept desolation of the mountain reaches and hidden valleys (and treasures); the far-reaching, mysterious forests; and eventually to the powerful city-states which battle for supremacy on his savage world.
His adventures are presented in a novel, "Tarak of Aantor",
and in thee short stories, "Three Met In Elur" which takes place after the novel; "Three Left Elur", a continuation of his saga; and "Tarak and the Hill People", his newest adventure.
The first short story ties up a loose end in the novel, and it is
recommended that the novel be read prior to the short stories.
I haven't yet found the perfect color image to portray Tarak of Aantor; but the image shown here, by Boris Vallejo, could certainly be him. Until I find the perfect one I will use it.
I do have a drawing by noted Artist Tom Yeates, however, which I intend to scan and put up soon. It reflects the impression of the first artist who has drawn the tawny-haired barbarian, and it does truly capture the essence of Tarak of Aantor.
I hope you enjoy his story.
Savage is Tawny.
Tarak of Aantor is the story of
an infant; captured by savage creatures who slay his mother; then brutally delivered into the
hands of a cruel scientist who subjects captured children to life-threatening situations in his
quest to raise a perfect warrior. It is the story of the struggles of the young boy, and later
the young man, as he battles to survive the sadistic attentions of his captors, and to keep
his sanity, on the savage world known as Aantor.
