WHO ARE DEMONS? Demons are living, seducing spirits whose supernatural mission is to turn men and women away from the way, truth and life of Jesus Christ. They rebelled against God in eternity and have but a limited time to hinder His divine plan for salvation. Fortunately, God wants all to be saved through the sacrifice once and for all of His Son, Jesus. This unheavenly host of bodiless spirits has a leader with significant power - the earth and "power of the air" was given him through the sin of Adam. Thus, he could legitimately offer it to the Son when he tempted Him in the wilderness. The Greek word "daimon" in the Bible suggests an inferior "deity" or evil spirit who has the supernatural ability to enter the human body and exercise control over it. Thus the demons of Satan are disembodied spirits seeking something or someone to possess. Matthew 8:28 describes "two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way." Powerful stuff! The Bible also teaches that there are degrees of wickedness and uncleanness represented by these spirits. See "CLASSIFICATION." A scary premise features demons who can and do pose as "angels of light"- 2 Corinthians 11:14,15 - "And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works." Don't listen to what natural man's "itching ears" want to hear - especially from pulpits who cater to the "religious marketplace of today." They may depart unknown from the Bema presense of Our Savior at judgment. Know too that this all seems to be part of the "end-times" scenario Paul warns against. Imagine how bad things will be when the restraining influence of the Holy Spirit is removed (2 Thessalonians 2:7)? Believe unto Jesus -- the Truth and the Light. He is the ONLY means of salvation offered from before the beginning! Accept NO substitute no matter how seductively packaged. God Almighty can NOT be defeated but He can, is and will be subverted, especially in the modern world. |
