Name: Helene Tourigny
A. K. A.: Hel, Nutball
Bizarre traits: Has managed to keep up an almost daily correspondence with me since we started writing in June 1998.
Description: (sings) I met Helene and she's totally cool! Totally cool! Totally cool! I met Helene and she's totally cool! Totally totally cool! (repeat ad nauseum or until Helene throws something at me). Yup, as you can guess from that moment of absolute childishness (and the fact that I've now moved Helene into this section) I've now met Helene in real life and it was just fab! We met when Howard arranged a Blood on the Stone meet-come-tour in Norwich (actually, he sent out an email a week in advance in case there were any other players apart from the ones he knew about in the country or heading this way on time to go to Norwich with him and be given the game tour) and I had a fabulous time. So Hel if I've not said it umpteen times already, it was fabby meeting you and great that we got on and I love you dearly (hug). And thanks for the book, it was good!
For those of you who don't know, Helene is a French-Canadian woman who I met through my friend Howard's pbem Blood on the Stone and who I've been in semi-regular email contact with ever since. She's still training to qualify as a sign-language interpreter (or rather, to go to college to qualify, since it takes a lot of time and money) and still working at the library to make money to pay for classes. And it was pretty funky to see her and Howard signing to each other when we met, mostly because Helene signs ASL and Howard BSL so there was much cross-SL translation mostly on Howard's part. But it's cool to see all that we've talked about being put into use. She's also still learning the violin, but I didn't get a demonstration of that :). Quiet and reserved yet fierce about her beliefs, we don't email each other as regularly as we used to, mostly because so little is happening in our mutual lives, and since we tend to share 90% of what's happening to each other *with* each other...well, it doesn't always give us much to talk about. Still, I enjoy our correspondence muchly and hope they continue for a good long time.
Most likely to say: "Not much to report here at the moment..."
Least likely to say: "Anyone else fancy a steak?"
