Maltese Traditions

(Tradizzjonijiet Maltin)

Malta, a very small island in the middle of the Mediterranean, is an island of traditions. More than 5,000 years of history and contact with different cultures shaped the traditions of this small nation. Many of the Maltese traditions have to do with the feasts, celebrations and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church which predominated the island up to about a decade ago. The influence of the Catholic Church is less pronounced now but many of the traditions connected with it are still strongly manifested.
