SO WHY ASTROLOGY ?

Knowing your astrological sign, and the signs of your friends, is a good way of understanding yourself and others, and smoothing the paths ahead - and that's the least of the benefits. We should begin at the beginning - with the Zodiac and the twelve signs. So, down to basics, I'm sure everyone is aware that there are twelve astrological signs, and that the Zodiac is divided into twelve segments or "Houses".

Primitive man looked to the stars and saw patterns among them, which seemed to be figures and animals. He noticed that when they formed certain patterns, various happenings on Earth seemed to be linked to them.

The circle came because it is the most ancient symbol of eternity, having no beginning and no end. Many of the primitive religions have left their traces of this sign all over the world, and have worshipped their Gods with the symbol of the circle, be it snakes, demons, whatever. But I digress, fascinating though all this is... So back to the Zodiac and the twelve signs then, when we've sorted them out we'll put them in their own houses.

Now, before we start I have to tell you there are further complications. These twelve signs are divided into four groups - fire, water, earth and air - and then phew! they possess what are called "Qualities". Cardinal = Enterprising, Fixed = Intense or Steadfast, or Mutable = Adaptable. It all sounds very confusing. But patience, it will gradually become clear as we slowly progress.

When I started my studies to become an astrologer, back in - well - more years than I like to think about, I thought I'd never sort it all out. But I had a wonderfully patient professor who assured me that one day it would become clear. It did. But there was a lot of hard grind to begin with, and I had to wade through lots of dry-as-dust books. I want to make these little articles as simple as possible - we should be able to smile as well! I wouldn't want you to go through miserably boring tomes. After all, I've done it for you!!

So don't lose heart. We'll start with the signs and later on we'll put them in their houses with their influences and qualities. These houses are ruled by planets - it's a bit like real houses owned by good and bad landlords. The houses will have visitors, parties, deaths, marriages, everything that can happen to a house, and we'll see how everything reacts. But that's for later on...
