RELIGIONS IN AMERICA

Religious Foundation in America (2/15)

The United State of America is a mosaic of different cultures and the religions they bring. Historically the USA was much different than it is today. The predominate population came from Europe and many came for religious freedom. The religious freedom was to escape the state’s pressure to conform the people of the land to a certain religious belief or religious expression. This desire for freedom from government control of religion is one of the hallmarks of American culture. This freedom is a desire to free religion from state control, not to exclude religion from the state. Therefore, you will find almost no religious leader as advisor in our government or on our state or federal payroll. Their own people, not the government, pay the religious leaders.

The freedom Americans speak of is not freedom from religion so you can to what you want with no moral guidelines, but freedom of religion from the state so the state does not control the people through religion. Sadly, what we see all too often in America’s big cities media is a people who have no religion and no moral guiding principles that America was built upon. The media, entertainment industry and newspapers reflect this same idea. In fact the present trend in America is to have no religious influence of any kind in government, work, or in school. It can even be said that America is against religion in the public sector. Christians are saddened by this trend. The religious foundation of America is one of the major influences that have made America great.
