I am a new internet subscriber so Genealogy on line is very exciting tome. Please excuse my childlike excitement.

Your family history provided a very important and surprising bit of information for my family tree. My great grandmother was Ann Elizabeth Williamson, born 02/11/1834 in Georgia. She died 07/10/1908 at Whitehouse, Henry County, GA. Both she and my great grandfather, Dr.
Ira Lawson Gunter are buried in the Ozias Church Cemetery in Henry County. I have been there many times.

I knew nothing about her lineage but there it was on your family tree, her parents, George Washington Williamson and Harriet Ellen Buckalew. I was surprised to learn that Harriet Buckalew died in Arkansas.

I have been interested in the Gunter, Vandergriff, Crockett, Barton, Pickens and Walkup family lines and now there are the Buckalews.

Thank all of you so much for this wonderful information. I hope this reaches the right people.

"Battle of Monacacy, MD on 9 Jul, Saturday, 1864: Some 6000 men of the Federal Army gathered from various sources, stood directly in the way of Jube Early's advance upon Washington from Frederick, MD. Early's 10,000 infantry moved forward to the Monocacy River, southwest of Frederick. After a stubborn fight, Lew Wallace's pickup forces were routed and the march onward was clear for Early. The Confederates suffered around 700 casualties and the Federals lost nearly 2,000, over 1200 of which were missing. On July 11, Early's force moved on, fighting at Rockville and Gunpowder Bridge, very near the Capital.

"On July 11, at Silver Springs, MD, Jubal Early's men burned the home of the Blair family. Skirmishing broke out at Frederick, MD and Fort Stevens, near Washington. On July 12, Early withdrew from Washington after observing more Federal troops moving into the fortifications of the Capital."

Poem by Joseph Madison Williamson's mother, Harriet Ellen (Buckelew) Williamson:

"In sixty-four, July the ninth,
In Maryland he fell;
My spirit sickens and grows faint,
This mournful tale to tell.

"Near Fredrick City now he lies,
Close by where he fell;
Oh, tender mothers! sympathies
While I my story tell:
He had no tender mother there
To raise his dying head,
Or shed a sympathetic tear,
Or speak a loving word.

"The deadly missile pierced the cheek
That I've so often kissed;
Tender mothers, come and weep;
Oh he's so sadly missed!
He had kind friends to lay him out,
And place him in the shade,
And heave a tender sigh, no doubt
To know that he was dead."
