Electricity

Most of the time spent during this unit will be spent on electrical circuits: what they are, how they work, the different components of a circuit, and the different types of circuits. In the beginning of the unit we will touch on magnetism, mainly the properties of magnets, how they become magnetized, and magnetic fields. We will also talk about the relationship between electricity and magnetism.

The concepts we will cover include:

magnetism: magnetic domains and magnetic fields

the relationship between magnetism and electricity

electrical circuits

conductors, insulators, and resistors

components of electrical circuits

series and parallel circuits

fuses

electrical safety

how electricity is generated (we will briefly touch on this)

Class activities will include making electrical circuits, making the components of electrical circuits, exploring resistors, making series and parallel circuits.  The unit project will be an assignment to construct an electrical "device" to certain specifications.

There will be a spelling quiz, content quiz, a unit test, and a unit project. Homework will be assigned most nights.
