November 15, 1997- To relieve all of you with Xtreme allergies to The X-Files or an otherwise sad inability to watch "Redux II," I have decided to plug Ain't It Cool News, a complex and clandestine group of informants in the entertainment industry headed by two Texans named Harry and Glen. (No, really, I'm not kidding.) While you're there, look around, these guys are total geeks and they're funny too. Read about their adventures in L.A. So, do you want to hear about the black-and-white X-Files episode? Glen's got it covered (dateline Nov. 2.) Or perhaps the Star Trek movie #9 (remember, the even sequel theory) and the long awaited Star Wars prequel. Besides that, I learned that the Wong Brothers (the fabulous Glen Morgan and James Wong) and Dean Devlin will be remaking Fantastic Voyage, and that Michael Biehn, the dude who fought the Terminator, will be playing Mad Max in the next movie (I'm sorry, Ray, Mel's lost interest, what with Fahrenheit 451 and the next Lethal Weapon.) Besides that, you already knew there was going to be an X-Men live action feature in the works and that Worf and Dax&Co have gotten hitched, so why tell you?

November 13, 1997- Here are the lists of winners for the World Fantasy Awards and the 1997 Hugo Awards. For a change of pace, here's this great forward about Star Trek (and it's transgenerational, too.)

November 11, 1997- You want a week in review? You got it:

Don't even think about clicking here if you haven't seen "Redux II"!!!

Nuff said.

Blast Off!- My Personal Soapbox. Well, friends, it may be the 100th episode next week, but in about another 23 it may come time for auld lang syne. Yes, this might be the last season of The X-Files, though we will be rewarded with a nice movie at the end of the year. Unfortunately there have been some subtle signs of breakdown. Duchovny wants the show moved to L.A. so he can be closer to his new wife, Tea Leoni. Carter actually caved before the premiere and admitted that Mulder was alive. Anderson is faced with a toddler, remember, and a relatively new boyfriend. And really, when the 100th episode itself is called "Redux II," you know some of the fun has gone out of it. We are a demanding audience, friends, and Chris Carter knows it. We want an hour-long feature movie every week, and we want everything spotless, from the script to the acting to the special effects. Every season sharpens the critical axe with which we chop up every mistake and stray thread. So, friends, I advise this prescription: watch and savor every episode. Because it's never too late to shoot the television when Mulder and Scully hop into bed.

November 7, 1997- Well, I'm sure y'all have been waiting for my verdict on The X-Files premiere. My answer to you all is: hold on, it's not finished yet. I'm sure Chris Carter found himself locked in the predicament of having to extend this show into another episode, namely the 100th episode. So, my friends, hopefully we would not have endured the lengthy DNA testing scene and the exciting scenes of Mulder and Scully frantically walking in vain. In the meantime, straight from X-central itself, I gleaned a few interesting bloopers from the show:
1) How did Mulder get a suit? He was in a T-shirt when he was in Scully's bedroom, and he couldn't return to his apartment.
2) If Overweight Man installed a surveillance camera in Mulder's apartment, didn't he know it was a hoax? (But this blooper may actually lead to an interesting plot string in which Cigarette-Smoking Man is shafted.)
3) Holly, the switchboard operator, started typing the number before Scully said it!
4) When did Scully learn to do DNA testing anyway?
5)
What good is DOD security anyway? Haven't they heard of ID pictures and security cameras? If it's that lax, the Pillsbury doughboy could break in!
6) And the big kahuna: why didn't Mulder check the "M's" when he was in the file room? Hellooo! (Although some of the Philes speculate that it symbolizes Mulder's decreasing obsession with his sister and his increasing concern about Scully, finally.)
Anyway, next week's aforementioned 100th episode will feature absolutely everyone, from Scully's brother to Samantha. Hopefully, it will be more of a tour de force than the season premiere.
