Comments: I am appalled at the Senate
decision. Is this democracy? I'm going to change
my voting allegiance but to whom? Or do I have
to spoil my vote? Why do we need a law in any
case? This is a simple regulatory matter for a
minority. This is an abrogation of individual
rights. Do we have to have a 'test case' as in
the case that led to the 'McNaughton Rules' for
abortion?

Comments: the "unrepresentative swill" of
the senate have again shown their detatchment
from the australian public and their willingness
to be influenced by extremist lobby groups
[the lyons forum]. I will remember the
senators who voted for the NEO "andrew's" bill
and no matter which political persuasion they
are aligned to I will endeavour to have them
voted out! I WILL EVEN VOTE FOR AMANDA
VANSTONE!!!!

Pseudo DEMOCRACY, the narrow minded SENATORS
were so removed from the mainstream view of
their electorate (state), that they chose to
vote for Bills based on their self serving
interests only. WHERE WAS THE

Comments: Isn't there a lot of irrational
rubbish being spewed out by pro-euthanasia
activists ? They appear to be very confused
about these issues. Firstly, no one has
suggested that they cannot die :->nor if they
as individuals wish to die before their natural
time by suicide, thats their business I suppose.
BUT, when they demand that 'putting human beings
down' [like animals] should be
sanctioned by the State that's another matter.
If they then demand that the process become part
of the health system, well I reckon they should
be shown very little sympathy. [I really do
apologise for the crudeness of the above to
those who may be experiencing or have recently
experienced the death of a loved one] It's a
pity more energy couldn't be given to fighting
for a decent health system, the end of queues on
hospital waiting lists etc.

Comments: Dear Dr Nitschke, I have just
read Des Carne's analysis of the submissions to
the Senate Inquiry and am disturbed by the
inference that the one page submissions failed
to register a well formed argument and were
probably the result of a church based campaign.
I am trying to recall the precise details, but
didn't your submission only run for a single
page? Regards Tony

Comments: Someone made the comment that
the supporters of voluntary euthanasia have
"lost the first round" but "have started the
ball rolling." I think that about sums it up.
Like many people, I'm feeling poorly represented
at the moment. I'm also hoping that Andrews and
his Christian Crazies pay for their rather
cavalier treatment of the express wishes of the
Australian people at the ballot box. I'd made
the mistake of thinking that the theocratic
piffle Howard & co dress up as "liberalism"
had no place in Australia. Just goes to show
that even a cynic like me can be guilty of
extreme idealism. There's a bumper sticker you
often see in the US that, for me, sums up
Andrews and his cronies in the Lyons Forum: "the
moral majority are neither". Stay tuned for Lady
Liberty's Revenge, folks.

humanand asa Territorian how our polititians can
be so illogical and so unreasonable. There is a
grwing groundswell of support for people to be

there are so many in politics who think that
Australians ( and Territorians will accept

Comments: Despite the bagging teachers et
al. are continually getting about literacy ( or
the lack of it! ), it would appear that " the
mob " has a greater understanding of the meaning
of the word " voluntary " than do our elected
representatives. Decisions about one's life are
basically the only thing we have in this world,
and I am sick and tired of being foeced to live,
and presumably die according to the often
dubious consciences of those elected to govern
us.

you have put in fighting for the rights of the
terminally ill. So much for pollies being the
peoples representatives and so much for the
conscience vote where pollies voted for their
political future rather than the issue.
Unfortunately there are still those in society
who believe that they have the right to regulate
our personal lives according to their own
particular beliefs. But we will keep fighting
won't we? My mother died of pancreatic cancer a
year ago and she was a life long supporter of
euthanasia.

myslef a humane and understanding man. It is a
great mystery to me how other people can presume
to rule the private and personal *lives* of
others. If the care for 'life' was equalled by
charity and care from these hypocritical and
sancitimonious ignoramuses, I would listen to
what they said. But they pronounce on the lives
of others, and feel no obligation to help the
lives of others. Logicall flawed, unable to step
outside of their sociall induced prejudice, and
unaware of the sanctity of the individual, I
wish for them to suffers as they will make
others suffer.

Comments: I have used this page and the
on-line Australian newspapers to try to keep up
to date with this very important topic. It is
important not just for the Northern
Territoreans, not just for Australians but for
Humanity. I thank you for your service. At the
turn of this century, the people of the
Commonwealth of Australia popularly introduced
radical ideas like the right for women to vote,
the right to a minimum wage and the right to a
pension on retirement. They were ideas yet to be
embraced by the rest of the world. Ideas which
were looked on by the European press of the time
as "democratic experiments by a youthful and
dynamic country". Almost 100 years later the
Commonwealth of Australia remains a youthful and
dynamic country with a people prepared to
embrace radical change. Almost a century later
popular opinion continues to want to set a
global example to increase Humanity's quality of
life, but this time there is no democracy, no
political representation to make that change
law. It is a dark day indeed.

doing. I had to "withdraw treatment" for my 9
day old daughter and it is not an easy decision
to make. It is far easier to keep a loved one
with you than to make the final decision that
will benefit them more than you. Age old
problem, people who have never been in this
position will never truly know the anguish
involved. Marshall Perron unfortunately had been
in that position. Don't believe the media hype
and false polls. We all know that the media make
them up to suit their point of view for that
particular day. Most people I talk to are in
favour of euthanasia so long as it can be
controlled. The NT legislation appears to have
enough controls to ensure a person's rights.
Good Luck with the Senate.

in Australia. The NT is light years ahead of the
US in this issue. I worked as a nurse for 12
years & saw a need for this even then. No
one should have to suffer when there is no
relief because doctors are afraid to give drugs
for fear of addiction (in a dying person!) &
there is no chance of healing. Everyone should
have the option to dye with dignity & with
their loved ones present.

of assisted suicide in Australia (as indicated
by your link to the "living in Australia"

anti-euthanasia comments in the guestbook). You
will find my name here twice, because I have
also posted here a copy of the guestbook entry I
made at the "living in Australia"

here, because it would probably redundant here.
However, I have put it here in case the owner of
the other site should remove it from his

Comments: I posted this message to the
"Living in Australia" anti-euthanasia site
today. I am posting it here as well just in case
they should decide to remove it. Your site takes
a very emotive, even hysterical view of
euthanasia. For example, you call the list of
members of the House of Representatives who
voted against the Andrews Bill the "Roll of
Shame". You know better than most that the
Andrews Bill followed a conscience vote, which
is precisely what these parliamentarians did.
Yet you claim that voting honourably, according
to one's conscience is shameful. Shameful is not
accepting that there are other viewpoints (and
conscientious standpoints) in the world apart
from your own. Today I visited the Braeside
Hospital Palliative Care Unit, in Fairfield,
Sydney, with a group of students from Japan. The
work that is being done there is very
impressive, and performs a great service to
those whose faith prevents them from choosing a
release from the pain and indignity of terminal
disease. Still, if I were so afflicted I would
still choose to end my life when the pain and
indignity became overpowering. I
enthusiastically support the alternative of
palliative care, even while I claim for myself
the right to determine the management of my own
(should it ever happen) terminal disease. Those
who are against euthanasia can simply choose not
to avail themselves of it. They are wrong in
claiming the right to choose for everyone else.
Finally, in your guestbook, for the question
"How did you find us?" you do not include the
alternative "Deliverance Site". I was referred
to your page by the deliverance site. If you
were interested in a healthy debate, your site
would have a link to them. This guestbook entry
is given in the interest of that healthy debate.
I trust you won't remove it.
