In Genesis, God created all things on the earth. On the sixth day God created man see Genesis 1:26. Man was created innocent, placed in a perfect environment, and given an absolutely simple test; and warned of the consequence of disobedience - death!
We all have heard what the only thing Adam and Eve could not do; eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Well, as it goes they do eat from the tree. Genesis 2:17 "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." Now hold on a second; Adam and Eve do eat from the tree and they did not die. So, what did God mean? He obviousely did not mean that they would die immediately; or they would have. Adam and Eves' sin caused us physical death and also gave away our spirit life, or soul life. There were several other consequences; those 2 being the worst. The consequences of Adam and Eves' disobedience were many; we now had the knowledge of sin, a conscience, GUILT. See Genesis 3:14-19 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle; and above every beast in the field upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life; and I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise thy heel. Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children (thus the pain during child birth) and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. And unto Adam he said, because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it; cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life." (man must work all the days of thy life) The age of innocence ends in mans expulsion from the garden (see Genesis 3:23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove them out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims (angels) and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of of the tree of life." This was Gods first test of man; this was mans first utter failure. And thus with the end of innocence comes the Age of Man under conscience; where Adam and Eve multiply and replenish the earth as God told them.
