  • Getting Involved In Affiliate Programs

Getting involved in an affiliate program can provide some extra pocket cash, but do not depend on your earnings to provide an income.  Of course, your earnings are going to depend entirely on the traffic your page generates, and unless you have a minimal number of 100 unique page hits per day an affiliate program might not be an option since many merchants will decline your joining to their program if your page hits are not at their minimal required level.

Depending on where your page is hosted, you might not be permitted to use affiliate banners, icons, or text links on your page.  Free hosting services usually do not permit affiliate banners unless they are part of their own program, of those that do permit commercial ventures from your page are VirtualAvenue and NetFirms.

Not all affiliate programs are equal, with several affiliate programs being the target of negative publicity for non-payment on acconts.  If you are not provided with powerful reporting tools and stats, you are probably being ripped off!  Pay per view affiliate or partnership programs place strong requirements on placement and minimum daily page hits.  Affiliate sponsors may pay per hit, lead, or sale and some offers are worded ambiguosly or are misleading in their representation. From direct experience I know to avoid all but the best... and the most dependable and honest affiliate program available right now is through Commission Junction who have never missed a beat and deliver their cheques on time, in the amount that was earned and expected.

CAUTION! - Before committing yourself to any affiliate program, do the research!  Check to see if they are prone to accounting problems and accuracy in their figures, also check for rumors of problems or complaints of non-payment.  Remember, you are hosting their banners, you don't want to get taken in by a shady deal.
