Born and raised in Vancouver, B.C., I relocated to Edmonton in July/96 and had to re-establish myself and my business interests. With almost two decades of business experience and computer skills, I ventured out of my employed trade into desktop and web publishing. Throughout high school and beyond I had an interest in journalism and illustrative arts. I have written many freelance articles that have been published and my business writing skills have been instrumental in determining decisions by such organizations as the CRTC. My artistic talents range from pencil sketching and painting, to illustration, diagrams, and logo design. More recently I have applied my artistic talents to web graphics and animations, plus Flash and Shockwave presentations. A student of life, I constantly challenge myself to learn new skills, especially in web publishing, web tools, and the advancements in technologies. I am currently venturing into web hosting and have just learned Linux, Apache OS, MySQL, PHP, and Perl. The recent addition of a firewire to my system will now permit me to work with streaming video and produce video content for multimedia presentations. Unlike those trained in college or university, I did not pay to have someone explain the manuals to me. I love to read, and for whatever reason my favorite books are indepth manuals on programming languages or software applications. While I believe a good web publication should include all the bells & whistles, I do not believe that they should be arbitrarily embedded in the page, but offered up as an option to support the rest of the page content. DEFINITION! - Geek : one who is content to sit endless hours at their keyboard producing something on the computer, missing meals and disregarding time. I therefore must be a geek! |
