In the early 80's jobs were at a premium, and finding and keeping employment was difficult. I had grown tired of the hospitality industry that I was gainfully employed in, and took the plunge into business. My first company being a small but successful towing business, that while it supported me through my child-bearing years, was not so well suited to raising a family. It was closed after three successful years, to move onto the next venture. It was with the towing business I began my first desktop publishing projects on my C64. From there I had gone onto running my own retail appliance store, and that's where the Amiga lifted the bar on desktop publishing. Using the Amiga's ability to tile a print, the painted window sign was achieved, plus we created our own advertising copy in-house, saving hundreds of dollars in design costs. My work in publishing began to branch out from there, with several local merchants bringing me their printing and design needs. I was co-editor of a local newsletter that supported the Amiga user group, had created stunning laminated menus for a neighboring restaurant, and was repsonsible for several dozen business card designs for that area. Today I work strictly in desktop and web publishing, plus do multimedia work and other graphic design and image editing projects. My SkinCity page has been a huge success, and allows me to use my graphics capabilities coupled with my web publishing abilities. As webmaster for edmontonwheels.com I have had the opportunity to use some of the skills not found in other pages, including extensive photo retouching, shockwave, and streaming video, plus journalistic skills as co-editor. Haigh's Used Appliances uses me for all their graphics and web publishing needs and have hired me in the creation of television ads, flyers, and the design of their company logo. FACT! - Every page I create is done in NotePad, I create my own JavaScript where required, and all graphics and content on my pages are original. I work in frames, embed tables within table proficiently, know how to target new windows, and can create in DHTML, XML, PHP, and custom CGI created in PERL. |
