it took me awhile to get back to dublin. despite having just seen the most powerful sights of my week, the gods didn't take pity on me. i think i missed every bus and train back to dublin by 10 minutes. i finally got to downtown dublin 5 minutes before i was to meet carrie and emily for a few of dublin's highlights.
unfortunately downtown is nowhere near where i was supposed to meet them. since i had no idea which buses went where i was going and i couldn't find a taxi to save my life, i got a nice walk beside the liffey, another of those tidal rivers. luckily it was high tide so it didn't stink too much!
somehow i managed to get to the guiness brewery in only 25 minutes. it's a bit of a hike from downtown! by this time i was ready for a pint...
we headed inside the guiness hopstore...it's kinda like the sam adams brewery here but with a lot longer time to collect things. imagine three floors of advertising memorabilia, demonstrations, and exhibits. and of course the pub in the basement.
here is a picture of my favorite guiness ad. it seems to be national policy to have a guiness ad in every pub. i had a hard time deciding which i liked the most until i saw this one on our sunday pub crawl.
after relaxing with a pint in the basement and comparing our day's adventures, carrie, emily and i headed away from the drink and towards the divine...
... in other words, dublin's churchs. since this was to be my only day in dublin, i wanted to be able to say that i had seen st. patrick's.
we started at christ's church. that's the one on top. it was decorated for st. patirck's day like the rest of the city.
it had been a long day so we plopped down on the soft grass and admired the church from there. of course we also attracted some masculine attention but you'd have to ask carrie about that!
after a bit we headed over to st. patick's for evening song. unfortunately evening song was closed to the public since BBC was taping it. so we plopped in the grass there until the guard threw us out.
it was back to temple bar for drinks, songs and grub after all that hard touristing. we had to get our energy up for st. patrick's day...
