Being in the Presence of God

Exodus 3:1-9

Sherwood Hawthorne

Introduction: Moses was tending the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law. He came to the mountain of God. The angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. God spoke to Moses and Moses responded, "Here I am." and God said, "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground."

When we move into the presence of God, there are three things that happen: Salvation, Sending, and Security.

I. SALVATION (verse 8)

Do you know for sure that you have been saved? I John 5:11-12

Has there been a change in your life after you were saved? II Corinthinans 5:17

Let us call on Him right now.
You may say, "Preacher, God can't save me! I have been too bad!" If He could create you, He sure can make you over again! Everyone has a past, and God can save anyone that calls upon Him.

Churches, if people are not getting saved in our church, then we are not living in the presence of God.
For the Christians here, are you still wandering around in the wilderness? The children of Israel did for 40 years!
"I can't give this up!" -- Try God and see! Most of the time we don't want to give up those things in life we like.

II. SENDING (verse 10)

God is still in the business of calling people to be preachers and teachers, missionaries, and music leaders. There may be someone God is dealing with here. Remember, God will never call you to a job unless He gives you the ability to do it.
The calling of God is never resented.
Have you talked to anyone about their salvation this past year?
There are three reasons you need to tell people about God.
A soul that is won for the Lord will last forever. You may have the best car, the best house, the best job. But when you die, you will leave it all behind. The only thing that will go to glory is your soul.

III. SECURITY (verses 11-14)

God told Moses to pick up the serpent by the tail. This is the wrong end of a snake by which to pick it up. But God knew what He was doing; He was showing Moses that he could trust God.
God is saying that if you will take this end, He will take care of the working end, the trouble, trials, and heartache. The enemy will come against you when you give God your all. Remember security only comes in Christ, and Him alone.

You may ask, "How can I get in the presence of God?"

First, you have to confess your sins and accept Him as your Saviour.
Then you have to confess any sins daily as you commit them.
