5 Road Blocks to Hell

Luke 16:19-31
II Peter 2:4 and Jude 23

Sherwood Hawthorne

Hell is real. The Bible speaks of Hell more often than of Heaven. Our job as Christians is to help deliver people from the gates of Hell.

There comes a time to die, and after that, judgment (Hebrews 9:27 NIV) "Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment." We will all hear Jesus say "WELCOME" or "DEPART"

Hell is a Place of Tears
Being in torment, he cried out. But it was too late. People put off crying out to God for salvation. They put it off "just a little while longer. I want to have some fun first." This is what the rich man did. He lived the good life. He was the man in his big house and fine clothes. This was where the "party animals" all went to have their good time. He didn't have time for all that "church stuff." He was having a good time.

Heaven is a Place of "NO TEARS"
The beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The book of Revelation tells us that God wiped his tears away. The beggar cried out in time. Won't you cry out today? Tomorrow may be too late, and then you would wind up like the rich man.

Hell is a Place of Remembering
"Remember in your lifetime you had all the good things and Lazarus received the bad, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony." What a terrible way to spend all eternity!

Hell is also a Place of Compassion
The rich man wanted his brothers to miss the place he was in. There are many people in Hell crying out for their loved one. While on earth they never took time to call out for themselves.

Hell is a Place of Communication
"Father Abraham, have pity on me." He never had time for Lazarus while on earth, but now he sure wanted to see that old beggar. He never sent for Lazarus or even gave him the leftovers from his table. I want to give you five road blocks that God has put up for us so we will not be in the rich man's company forever and ever.

PERSONAL SOUL

Each and every one of us has within us a knowledge of some superior being. It is within each of us to know there has to be Someone that is bigger than we are.
They have found in some of the jungles people that have never seen an outsider, but they were found to be worshipping something or someone. To go to Hell, a person would have to put aside that inner feeling that is crying out, "Danger! Hell's ahead!!"

PREACHING CHURCH

If you go to Hell, you will have to reject every sermon that you have ever heard preached in your life; every Sunday School lesson you have ever been taught, or maybe even taught yourself; every prayer you ever heard in church for the lost people; every song that you ever sung in the church. If you go to Hell, you will have to go past a church preaching, "Danger! Hell's ahead!!"

PRAYING SAVIOUR

Christ is at the right hand of God, praying for you. Today He is praying that you will be saved, that someone will tell you about what Jesus went through just to save you from Hell. "Are you saved?" This could be the day.
If you go to Hell, you will have to go past a praying Saviour. "Danger! Hell's ahead!!"

PLEADING HOLY SPIRIT

When Christ went back to be with the Father and took His rightful place, He sent the third person of the trinity to be with us. He will draw us to Christ. Jesus Himself said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but by Me." If we are to miss Hell, than we have to go to Heaven by accepting the finished work of the cross of Christ. He reproves us of sin and righteousness. If you go to Hell, you will have to reject a Holy Spirit pleading, "Danger! Hell's ahead!!"

PLACE OF THE SKULL

Danger! Hell's ahead!! and the cross stands between us and Hell. You will have to go past the cross.

The story is told of some men that went to Chicago. They had heard about a nightclub by the name of "Gates of Hell." They heard it was the place to go if you wanted to have a good time. But they got lost and could not find it. After they had driven around for a while, they stopped and asked a police officer if he knew where the nightclub called "The Gates of Hell" was located. He responded that he did, and in fact they were on the road that would take them there. He said, "Go straight ahead and you will come to a church on the corner called Calvary. Go past Calvary and you will come to the Gates of Hell."

If Hell is where you want to go, then you don't have to do anything. Just stay on the road that you are on. But if your desire is to go to Heaven, then you will have to exit on the exit called "JESUS".
