Georg was born in 1791, just before the keeping of civil records in Alsace. His parents were George Schweyer and Sophie Mercker.

Margaretha was born 10 October 1793 at 4 p.m. in Ingwiller during the second year of the French Republic. Her father, Frederic Schleiffer, was a farmer in Ingwiller.

Georg and Margaretha and their first five children were born in Ingwiller, Alsace.

They came to America from the port of LeHarve in France aboard the ship "Lorena." The ship had 385 passengers (all farmers) and landed in New York harbor on 5 June 1834. The family bought with them seven chests of possessions, one gun, one waggon (sic), and two hundred pounds of bread. They traveled from New York City to the Buffalo area on the Erie Canal.

Georg was one of the early settlers in Dutch Hollow. Peter Zittel was the first German immigrant to settle in Dutch Hollow in 1833. On 3 July 1834, Georg Schweyer, "late of Alsace in the Kingdom of France, now of Sheldon," bought two parcels of land north of Strykersville: 30 acres for $310 and 100 acres for $1400. On 19 August 1835, Margaretha Schweyer of Sheldon bought a plot of land (unknown acreage) near Wolf Creek in Sheldon for $650.

Their sixth and last child Margaret was born in America in 1837.

Georg applied for citizenship in Buffalo NY on 16 July 1840 and was granted citizenship in Warsaw NY on 22 February 1844.

Georg died in 1865 and Margaretha two years previous. They both are buried in the Dutch Hollow cemetery on Centerline Road.

The original spelling of the name (Schweyer) gradually change to the modern spelling Swyers. Variations have included Schweier, Schwier, and Swyears. To make it easier in this day of computers, the last name has been spelled with the modern spelling.

Salomea married Ferdinand Emerick before 1837 (possibly in Buffalo). Ferdinand owned the Tozierville Tannery. It was located on the brook on the northwest corner of Humphrey Road and Centerline Road. (The area was known as Humphrey's Hollow and Tozier's Corners.) He bought the tannery and a barn in 1841 from Lester and Marcus Humphrey for $575, and, according to the deed, it was already a known establishment as the Tan Yard and Tannery. Ferdinand, in the deed, was also given a right-of-way to reach Centerline road from his property. In 1843 he purchased another 12 acres adjoining the tannery that contained a stone quarry. The seller (John Morgan of Napes, Ontario county) retained use of a two rod wide access to the stone quarry from the road, and half of the stone in the quarry. Ferdinand and Salomea are believed to be buried in the Humphrey Hollow Cemetery on Centerline Road. There is record of Ferdinand purchasing a plot in the cemetery, but there are no stones to indicate a burial.

George bought land in the Folsomdale NY. His wife was the daughter of another of the early immigrant families to settle in the Dutch Hollow area. She is buried in the Folsomdale Cemetery with a headstone reading Doradea Swyers.

Jacob moved to Evans NY about 1849. His wife's name was unreadable on the 1855 New York census. Jacob died before 1861, and possibly his wife also. When his father's will was probated in 1861, the children were living in different towns in Erie and Wyoming County. In the 1865 New York census, one of the children was found living with a family who claimed him as an adopted son.

Peter Muth was a merchant and deputy post master at Bennington Center; served as Town Clerk for three years; his store in 1866 was located where old Route 77 formed a four corner with Route 354.

Peter Muth came to America when he was six years old. The Muth family first lived in Geneva NY for six years. From there they moved to Henrietta NY (near Rochester). After fourteen years the family moved to Bennington NY. While living in Bennington he married Margaret Swyers. After living in Bennington for twenty-three years the Peter and Margaret and their children moved to Newark in Wayne county NY.

George spent his life in Newark NY. Edward moved to St. Louis, Addie moved to Fort Wayne, IN, and Louisa moved to Buffalo NY.
