Descendants of John Coe
Generation No. 1
1. JOHN1 COE1
was born 17111. He married ELIZABETH1.
Notes for JOHN COE:
An email from Carl R. Coe at CarlRCoe@compuserve.com:
Tanjla,
Actually, I think John and Elizabeth Coe of Kent County,
MD, are the most
likely parents of William Coe who died in 1782 in Baltimore.
John and Elizabeth Coe's sons John and Job Coe (tried for
bastardy in
Baltimore County in 1769) were in Baltimore County in the
1760s. John Coe
associated with Henry Stevenson, the appraiser of William
Coe's estate.
Stevenson, born March 2, 1739, in Baltimore County and owner
of ``Addition
to Fellowship,'' lived in the same area as the Coes. An
entire chapter of
my book is dedicated to ``The Coes of Kent and Frederick
Counties,
Maryland.''
Have you found anything on William Coe's sons Greenbury,
William and James? Greenbury was married to Martha. William married Hannah Barber at the
First Baptist Church in Baltimore, Jan. 31, 1791. James married Sarah Hurt at the
same church, Feb. 1, 1798. Do you know where we might access
records of First Baptist Church?
Looking forward to talking with you.
Carl
Note: If anyone has the information on how we can access
records of the First Baptist Church of Baltimore, MD, would you please write to me at baxtoga@aol.com.

in Maryland (?)1, and died June 20, 17821. He married SUSANNA HARRIOTT1 June 18, 1752 in St.
John's Parrish, Baltimore, MD1.
Notes for WILLIAM COE:
According to my first source: Ann Armstrong - William Coe
was the son of Robert Coe from Georgia - I have since discovered from Carl R. Coe that
this is incorrect.Source: Began with Ann Cowen Armstrong's 1972 family tree information.
According to Carl Robert Coe, who is the author of a future publication, The Coes of
Virginia and Maryland, Robert (?) Coe was William Coe. Brøderbund Family Archive #310,

According to Larry Newhouse, 607 Greenwood Cove E, Niceville, FL 32578 William Coe served
in the Revolutionary War. He served under Captain Francis Revelley and Lt. Henry Baldwin
of the 4th Co. 3rd Battalion. He served as a teamster from Baltimore Co. Maryland.
The story of my COE ancestors begins with WILLIAM COE(Cock)
who married SUSANNA HARRIOTT 18 Jun 1752 in St. John's Parrish, Baltimore, Maryland.
William was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. He served under Capt Francis Revelley and
Lt Henry Baldwin of the 4th Co., 3rd Battalion. He served as a teamster from Baltimore
Co., Maryland. William was born ca 1730(?) and died in 1782.
From Marion at MBEGGS3474@aol.com died 6/20/1782 and was a Wagoneer from MD.
They had many children of which NATHAN COE, the subject of this sketch, was born 4 Jul
1757 in Baltimore, MD. He married MARY DORCAS TUDOR 15 Mar 1790 in Baltimore Co., MD. She
was the daughter of THOMAS & MARY (EDWARDS) TUDOR. Nathan died 12 Oct 1833 in
Muskingum County, Ohio. He is buried in the Baxter Cemetery 4&1/2 miles north of
Zanesville on TR 149 (off SR 60) to dead end. Baxter Cemetery is in Muskingum Township.
After her husband's death, Mary sold their Muskingum County farm for $900 to George Haines
3 Apr 1834. Nathan may have also been a Revolutionary War veteran. Mary was born 1767 at
Kingsville, Baltimore Co., MD. Nathan and Mary had the following children.
The source of my early COE information is the work of CARL COE of Marysville, OH. The Coe
family is greatly indebted to Carl Coe for his research on the Coe Family.
The following information also comes from Carl Coe, Janice Tacia on the family of Annie
Coe & Thomas Conn, some of my own research and the research of several of my Clapham
cousins, particularly Bruce Clapham of Longmont, Colorado.
