Trudy's Revolutionary War Page
History is a very good teacher of what is to come as well as what has come to pass. Genealogy is history too. In my own research I have found the history as fascinating as the genealogy.
My great-great-great-great-great-grandfather John Pontius (Pontious) fought in the Revolutionary War in a line company of Peter Grube Jrs' Pennsylvania Rifle Regiment under Sam'l Miles, Col. His service included the Battle of Long Island in August of 1776.
In researching the Battle of Long Island, I realized why I had never learned about this Battle in school. It was not one of the high points
in the Revolution for the Colonies.
