Notes

As an adult, was known as Robert Ormond Case, one of ten children.

Although born simply Robert Case, he became in later years Robert
Ormond Case. As he told the story, the semi-literate clerk at his
mustering out of the Army after WWI, instead of the abbreviation "NMI",
put a zero in the place provided for a middle initial. His discharge
papers, when issued, then identified him as "Robert O. Case". Because the
discharge certificate was used as identification in connection with
important events such as applying for jobs, drivers licences, veteran's
benefits, marriage licenses, etc., this became his official name. Soon
people were insisting on knowing what the initial stood for. He decided
that the Duke of Ormond was a likely ancestor (undocumented so far), and
that was his answer.

Graduated last class of Tualatin Academy, Forest Grove, Oregon.
Corporal, U.S. Army, field artillery,1917-18. Graduated (BA, journalism)
University of Oregon, 21 June, 1920. Prominent writer; 14 books, 200
short stories and articles. Peabody Award, 1943.
