Notes

Bertha was raped and murdered in her home in Seaside at the age of 88.
Her killer, Herbert "Jack" Futch, was apprehended, tried and convicted in
Clatsop County Circuit C ourt. He was sentenced on 29 Nov 1990 to life
in prison without parole, plus 20 years.

Notes

Daniel Stiles was a millwright. While chipping a millstone, a piece of
stone flew into his eye. He lost the sight of that eye, and later the
inflamation spread to his other eye making him totally blind. After the
death of his wife, Charity, he was unable to keep the family together, so
he "put out" his younger children. Bersheba, our ancestor, at the asge of
9 years, went to live with some german people.

Descended from another Rogers line who migrated to Boston in 1636.
This line was made up chiefly of "teachers and preachers", Cambridge
scholars in England and at Harvard. One of these, Rev. John Rogers
(1630-1684) was president of Harvard from 1682 to 1684. See #495.

The original Stiles home was in Wilksbarre, Pa., and Daniel Rogers Stiles
and Charity Lucas, his wife, are buried there.
