MY GREAT-GREAT GRANDFATHER HIRAM BIAS LINE

THIS MAY BE HIRAM BIAS, SR & NANCY JANE TABOR, BUT NOT YET PROVEN. WHAT DO YOU THINK??

PARENTS: Jesse Bias, Sr. and Rhoda BLOYD

BORN: 1815 in IL or KY. 1900 census says Gideon (Hiram's son) says he was born in KY so that's what I'm going with. Widow's pension paperwork says he was 38 in 1862 making his birthdate 1824. Many records show incorrect dates I have found.

DIED: 1-31-1862 in Rolla, MO of complications with measles (another bit of paperwork says it was typhoid) while being inducted into the Army. His father-in-law, Henry TABOR, died at the same time and of the same disease.

Notes on the military papers I have copies of say he was in the Civil War, Phelps Co F Reg., MO under Commander John Phelps 10-1861.

Phelps Independent Regiment Infantry was organized at Rolla, MO 9-22 to 12-27-1861. Duty was at Rolla, MO until 2-1862. They lost two officers and 23 enlisted men killed and 3 officers and 91 enlisted men by disease. Total of 119. Source of data: "A Compendium of the War of the Rebellion, V.III" by Frederick H. DYER, c1908, p. 1340.

Records indicate those who died in Rolla of the epidemic were buried in a mass grave then moved to a cemetery later. Most moved to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis but unknown which cemetery he was moved to.

Record of Allowances show he had served in Capt. Stone's Cavalry, Co A., Ozark Co., MO HG (Home Guard). Enlisted 7-15-or 16 1861 as private and was discharged from Home Guard 10-18-1861 when he then was to enlist for the Civil War in Rolla, MO where he died.

He married Nancy Jane TABOR 8-15-1844 (I have a copy of their marriage license) in Taney Co., MO. She was born 11-15-1820 (info received says her tombstone reads date of birth as 11-15-1826) in Madison Co., IL and died 6-18-1898 at Dugginsville, MO.

They were found on Ozark Co., MO censuses 1860, 1870, and 1880.

NANCY JANE TABOR-BIAS

Bureau of Land Management shows she homesteaded 80 acres in ozark Co., MO 11-20-1875 after Hiram died ("N1/2NE, Sec 35/T-22-N/R-16-W/5th Principal Meridian). Land office, Springfield, MO. Ozark Co was part of Greene Co at that time per info from another researcher. I found this info in the Greene Co., MO records.

She was found after Hiram died on the 1870 Ozark Co., MO census and was 44 shown as "keeping house". Others shown on this census in this household are "Guan" age 16 b. MO, McCajah 11, b. MO and Hiram 7, b. MO. Guan was most likely Gideon.

Her parents were Henry TABOR and Rutha BRASHEARS (spelling unsure--also spelled BERSHEARS and BASHEARS on other paperwork). They were married 2-8-1831 in Perry Co., TN. Henry was born 6-1802 in Warren Co., KY and died 12-31-1851 in Rolla, MO. He was the son of James TABOR and Edy ______. Rutha was born 1806 in NC and died 1890 in Ozark Co., MO (death cert. on file)

1860 census shows him 8 years old which would make his birthdate 1852. 1852 birthdate agrees with Brenda RODRIGUES, his descendant's info as well.

Bureau of Land Management shows he homesteaded 80 acres in Ozark Co., MO 6-11-1895. I have printout of that information.

1880 Ozark Co census also lists him.

In 1900 AR census he is shown living there with his wife and a Robert...presumed Robert TABOR...in the town of Cedar Creek.

He also married Elizabeth C. WILSON 10-30-1892 in Douglas Co., MO. She was born 6-19-1866 in Ozark Co., MO.
