At Christian Impact Ministries, our
hearts are turned to God and our prayers are for the victims and their families and the
thousands of lives that have been devastated by the unspeakable acts of terrorism that was
perpetrated on the United States on the morning of September 11, 2001. The horrific vision
of death and destruction witnessed by many will live on in our memories and for
generations to come. But now is the time to pick up the "spiritual baton of
accountability" and lead our families and church communities back into a right
relationship with our Lord through personal repentance and genuine spiritual renewal. As
Christians, our lives must testify to our unyielding trust in the Lord to comfort, guide
and protect our families and our great nation. Now is the time for His people - every
Christian - to get on their knees before Jehovah God in daily prayer. Christian Impact Ministries encourages you and your family to join us in fervent prayer (James 5:16) for the tragic events of evil & terrorism that have now beset our nation:
If your family has specific prayer requests relating to these events, feel free to send them to us at cim@carolina.rr.com. Personal reflections on this tragedy from the heart of CIM's Executive Director (click here) World Trade Center Attacked - New York City
Pentagon Attacked - Washington, D.C.
"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." 1 Timothy 2:1-4 "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14 "Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD" Psalms 33:12
National Day of Prayer and
Remembrance for the Victims Of the Terrorist Attacks on September 11, 2001 On Tuesday morning, September 11, 2001, terrorists attacked America in a series of despicable acts of war. They hijacked four passenger jets, crashed two of them into the World Trade Center's twin towers, a third into the Headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense at the Pentagon, causing great loss of life and tremendous damage. The fourth plane crashed in the Pennsylvania countryside, killing all on board but falling well short of its intended target apparently because of the heroic efforts of passengers on board. This carnage, which caused the collapse of both Trade Center towers and the destruction of part of the Pentagon, killed more than 250 airplane passengers and thousands more on the ground. Civilized people around the world denounce the evildoers who devised and executed these terrible attacks. Justice demands that those who helped or harbored the terrorists be punished - and punished severely. The enormity of their evil demands it. We will use all the resources of the United States and our cooperating friends and allies to pursue those responsible for this evil, until justice is done. We mourn with those who have suffered great and disastrous loss. All our hearts have been seared by the sudden and sense-less taking of innocent lives. We pray for healing and for the strength to serve and encourage one another in hope and faith. Scripture says: "Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted." I call on every American family and the family of America to observe a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance, honoring the memory of the thousands of victims of these brutal attacks and comforting those who lost loved ones. We will persevere through this national tragedy and personal loss. In time, we will find healing and recovery; and, in the face of all this evil, we remain strong and united, "one Nation under God." NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim Friday, September 14, 2001, as a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for the Victims of the Terrorist Attacks on September 11, 2001. I ask that the people of the United States and places of worship mark this National Day of Prayer and Remembrance with noontime memorial services, the ringing of bells at that hour, and evening candlelight remembrance vigils. I encourage employers to permit their more 2 workers time off during the lunch hour to attend the noontime services to pray for our land. I invite the people of the world who share our grief to join us in these solemn observances. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this thirteenth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand one, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and twenty-sixth. GEORGE W. BUSH America Under Attack - A New War Has Begun (Reprinted from the October 2001 Savior's Seasonings newsletter) The LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from the ends of the earth, like an eagle swooping down, a nation whose language you will not understand, a fierce-looking nation without respect for the old or pity for the young (Deuteronomy 28:49-50). In the morning hours of September 11th, a new era began for America. Unlike the surprise attack by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor on Sunday morning, December 7, 1941, the face of this age-old enemy called Evil has cloaked itself in darkness today and has manifested itself through what we refer to today as terrorists (John 3:20). Yet something changed in America that morningsomething that I pray God will divinely use in seeing His Church lead this nation back to Him through genuine repentance and spiritual revival. That change I believe is the reality that America may not be as invincible as so many had believed as they went to sleep on Monday evening, September 10th. Following the attacks, the Lord lead me to the passage of Scripture which opens this articleit involves one of many curses allowed by God when His people refuse to obey Him and follow His commands (v.15). As I read that scripture, I sat in awe of just how this passage symbolically captured the actual events which had just occurred in the attacks upon the Pentagon and New York Citys World Trade Center. Hear closely the related warning found in Zephaniah 1:14-18: "The great day of the LORD is near-near and coming quickly. Listen! The cry on the day of the LORD will be bitter, the shouting of the warrior there. That day will be a day of wrath, a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness, a day of trumpet and battle cry against the fortified cities and against the corner towers. I will bring distress on the people and they will walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD. Their blood will be poured out like dust and their entrails like filth. Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the LORD's wrath." Throughout these two passages and many other scriptures, Gods Holy Word declares that He loves us, and that there is certain judgment when we refuse to follow and obey Him. I sincerely believe that America today is in danger of losing not only its freedom, but also its soul as the moorings of its Christian foundation are weakened to the point that they are beginning to crumble. This cultural and spiritual decay has been observed for several decadesevidenced for example in the ~1.2 million legalized abortions conducted each year, the pervasive acceptance of homosexuality and sexual immorality, the growing desensitization and hunger for violence in TV programs-movies-video games, and the broadening acceptance of false gods of others faiths. I sincerely believe the sword of Gods judgment is hanging precipitously over America today. The choice for our nation is very clear: either we (Christian community, His Church) repent and lead in a sincere return to God (2 Chronicles 7:14) or else perish by in His righteous hand of judgment (Deuteronomy 8:19-20, 28). God is calling His Church to holiness & obedience so that the world might both see and know Him through the living witness of Jesus Christ in each of our lives. Will you be a devoted follower of Jesus Christ for such a time as this (Esther 4:14). Will you stand firm as a soldier of Jesus Christ? (2 Timothy 2:3-4) In His Grip of Grace, Rev. David W. Haltom |
