THIS IS MY HERITAGE.


Among the many chores performed by women, both North and South, during the
War Between the States was the making of dressings for wounds. Lint was
pulled from old clothes and fashioned into an absorbant packing that was
used by surgeons in military hospitals to staunch bleeding.

A sad but beautiful song, "PICKING LINT", was written to honor the women
who were making these bandages.
