The day that Bob was born there was a terrible snow storm. The doctor and nurse had to walk from Ashland Avenue to Damen Avenue where Grandpa John and Grandma Irene lived. Just from the history books we know this period of time as the 'Great Depression.' Grandma Irene told me that in the Gniech house there was enough to eat and a lot of love to help the children grow strong.
In the first grade the great Sisters from the Catholic school gave Bob a little suit to wear at school. When he returned home he told Grandma Irene that the others' boys made fun of him and in an angry voice he stated "I will wear my own clothes"! The rest of his childhood was relatively normal. Bob was not fond of high school; so he quit and got a job. Bob met his future wife, Joan while working downtown at the age of sixteen. He graduated from night school.
Bob and Joan are parents to David, Kathleen, Joan Marie, Robin, Patrick, and Peter.
Bob is a grandfather to Jeffery, Jimmy, Tommy & Tracy (David & Laurie are the parents); Dawn, Andy, Robert, Micheal (Kathleen & Robert are the parents); Ashlee (Patrick & Desiree are the parents); Peter Jr. (Peter & Hieke are the parents). Bob is a great-grandfather.
