Stephen was born by emergency cesarean section on December 20, 1998, at 3:05 a.m. I wasn't awake to help bring him into the world, to hold him, or to hear his first cry. However, when I finally did get to see him, I was overwhelmed with love, and thankfulness that he had survived his scary entrance into our lives. After so many years with just one child, having a miscarriage the year before, and being nearly 40, I was certain I wouldn't have any more children. When Stephen came along, it was like a new lease on life. I'd forgotten so much about babies, and was getting set in my ways, but he has reopened my eyes to the wonder around me. I'm looking at life through the eyes of an innocent child again, and every day I marvel at the precious miracle that is Stephen.

In just a short time, Stephen has touched our lives so very deeply, bringing love and laughter, and the promise of a future filled with frogs and snails and puppy dog tails.
