27. John Jenkins⁴ DAVIES (Henry P.⁵, John⁶)⁽⁴⁹⁾ was born in Swatara, Dauphin County, PA, June 7, 1860. He died February 17, 1930 in Scranton, Lackawanna County, PA, at 69 years of age. His body was interred in Waverly, Lackawanna County, PA, in Hickory Grove Cemetery.

He married Catherine LEWIS in Scranton, Lackawanna County, PA, December 15, 1897. She was born in Cil-y-cwm, Carmarthenshire, South Wales October 3, 1864. Kate⁽⁵⁰⁾ was the daughter of Rees Joseph LEWIS and Ann JONES. She died August 18, 1956 in Scranton, Lackawanna County, PA, at 91 years of age. Her body was interred in Waverly, Lackawanna County, PA, in Hickory Grove Cemetery. Kate's occupation: Elementary School Teacher then Homemaker in Scranton, Lackawanna County, PA, before 1897.

John's occupation: Pharmacist and Drug Store Owner in Scranton, Lackawanna County, PA, until his death. His younger daughter, Catherine, told me that in his youth he had to take on many of the responsibilities for looking after his younger brothers and sisters because his father didn't do it. She also told me he had an area in the front part of his drug store where "the best minds in Hyde Park" (then the western portion of Scranton, earlier a community of its own) would frequently gather and discuss literature, philosophy and the important topics of the day. She said her mother was sometimes impatient that he would be too generous at his pharmacy and soda fountain for his own good. He would suggest his customers just take some baking soda instead of selling them the more expensive antacid a doctor had prescribed, and he would usually put better quality ingredients in his ice cream sodas than he had to. He was a member and deacon in the Welsh Baptist Church but didn't often get to Sunday Services because he had to keep the drug store open.

John Jenkins DAVIES and Catherine LEWIS had the following children:

28 i. Sarah Lewis³ DAVIES was born in Scranton, Lackawanna County, PA, November 10, 1898. She died January 10, 1975 in Madison, Morris County, NJ, at 76 years of age.⁽⁵¹⁾ Her body was interred in Waverly, Lackawanna County, PA, Hickory Grove Cemetery. She married Robert A. SADLER June 21, 1926. He was born in Newburgh, Orange County, NY August 10, 1894. Robert was divorced from Sarah Lewis DAVIES 1933.⁽⁵²⁾

Sarah was divorced from Robert A. SADLER 1933.⁽⁵³⁾ Sarah owned and operated a Dress Shop in Scranton, Lackawanna County, PA.

+ 11 ii. Catherine Louise DAVIES was born May 29, 1902.

29 iii. John Spencer DAVIES was born in Scranton, Lackawanna County, PA, June 28, 1906. He died June 22, 1969 at 62 years of age. His body was interred in Waverly, Lackawanna County, PA, Hickory Grove Cemetery. He married Patricia Fairfax MARSH July 21, 1943. She was born January 26, 1916. She died December 12, 1987 in Framingham, Middlesex County, MA, at 71 years of age. Her body was interred in Waverly, Lackawanna County, PA, Hickory Grove Cemetery.

Spence's occupation: Accountant in Scranton, Lackawanna County, PA, until 1965.

30 iv. W. Laurence DAVIES was born in Scranton, Lackawanna County, PA, July 2, 1908. He died August 20, 1946 at 38 years of age. His body was interred in Waverly, Lackawanna County, PA, Hickory Grove Cemetery. He married Helen SPENCER in Scranton, Lackawanna County, PA, about 1935. She was born November 16, 1907. She died December 18, 1993 in Roswell, Fulton County, GA, at 86 years of age. Her body was interred July 18, 1994 in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Waverly, Lackawanna County, PA. Helen's occupation: Banker.

Laurence's occupation: Banker until 1946.
