MY TRIBUTE TO

JAMES GARNER
James Garner, was born James Scott Bumgarner in Norman, Oklahoma on April 7, 1928.

His parents were Weldon and Mildred and, following Jim's birth, they moved to a small town east of Norman that is now called Denver, Oklahoma. They operated a small store there.

Jim had two older brothers. He lost his mother when he was 5, and was not fond of his step mother. When his dad's second marriage ended, he left the boys with relatives and moved to California. Jim joined him there later.

Though living in California, Jim was still a resident of Oklahoma and was the first draftee from that state inducted into the U.S. Army Infintry in 1950, when the Korean War broke out. He was wounded twice during his stay in the Military.

Back in California, a friend got him interested in acting as a career.

His work on "The Caine Mutiny" consisted of cueing Henry Fonda on his lines and a small part in the film.

He appeared in a couple of segments of "Cheyenne" starring Clint Walker, and this led to a contract with Warner Brothers. His first movie was "Toward The Unknown", and he's had several since. At our home, favorites are "My Fellow Americans, Space Cowboys and I watch The Rockford Files (now in syndication) nightly.

From the movie, "Space Cowboys."
