I have been an admirer of sighthounds since childhood.
From the age of 10, my favorite breed of dog has been the Borzoi.
I have always thought it would be wonderful to have a Borzoi-like sighthound
the size of my sweet English Springer Spaniels.
Winter 1994, I saw a classified ad in Dog World magazine for Longhaired Whippets.
I sent away for information and received interesting articles on how Whippets can carry
a recessive longhair gene, and a small group of breeders in the U.S. were working to have Longhaired Whippets recognized as a variety or as a separate breed. I sort of put it in the
back of my mind since at the time I'd just gotten my sweet little Elton pup.
In 1995 I did meet a Longhaired Whippet in-person at a local AKC dog show.
It was a black & tan male, and companion to a Borzoi who was entered in the show.
Summer of 2004 I saw a full-page ad in Dog World magazine for Silken Windhounds.
I am always interested in learning about different sighthound breeds, and their Borzoi-look
very much appeal to me. I immediately went to the International Silken Windhound Society website. Soon after, I joined the Yahoo Silken Windhound group. Joining the group is
highly recommend to anyone interested in the breed. I had dozens of newbie
questions which were readily answered.
March 2005 I was very excited to attend the Silken Windhound Specialty Show
in Northern California. Read about my experience on the next page!
