In May of 2000, Hollis went to join the other kitties at the Rainbow Bridge. He fought a courageous battle with kidney disease but just could not stay with us any longer. He is so terribly missed. During his illness, Hollis received many loving purrs of healing. It just was not meant to be. |
He was a former mascot at Holley Carburetor (later Borg
Warner Automotive) in Sallisaw, Oklahoma where he showed up
as a young, wild kitten, and was slowly tamed by the attention
given him by the Burns Guards and many animal lovers at the plant. He was originally named Holly Carburetor, but little furry growths were discovered as he matured, and his name was changed to Hollis. He hung around, ruled the roost, and was a most congenial fellow. He was rewarded with food, brushing, and much love, as well as the occasional medical treatment whenever he had to defend the plant from intruders. This continued for about 3 years, until one day a younger, tougher tomcat showed up and tried to displace him. He fought valiantly, but due to his age and the strength of the younger tom, he had to be hospitalized and was neutered at that time. |
As he was now to become a retired security guard, it was thought to be in his best interest to move to a larger home to enjoy his retirement years. Thus, he chose Black Rock Ranch, where he knew there existed a very nice "cat house" filled with friendly felines, good food, toys, a large outdoor play area, and all the love and attention he would need. |
