Virgil Ackley, 79, of 1722 N. Sweetbriar St., Springfield died 4:15 p.m. Sunday at Springfield Community Hospital after a lingering illness.
Formerly of Frankfort and a retired farmer, he was born in Roxabell Oct 11, 1901, to Lorenzo and Etta Jordan Ackley. In 1919, he married the former Hazel Greenjee who survives.
Surviving are six sons, Paul of Greenfield, Sam of Chillicothe, Charles of Springfield and Robert, James and Terry, all of Frankfort; seven daughters, Mrs. Frank (Linda) Ropp of Urbana Mrs. Paul (Juanita) Robinson of Frankfort and Mrs. Lewis (Pauline) Hutchins, Mrs. Don (Opal) Campbell, Mrs. Robert (Mildred) Welch, Mrs. Al (Peggy) Fulk and Mrs. Leroy (Mary) Hegg, all of Springfield,56 grandchildren many great-grandchildren and a brother, Ora of Springfield. He is predeceased by a son and daughter.
Mr. Ackley was a member of the Modern Woodmen Lodge.
His funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Fisher Funeral Home, Frankfort, with the Revs. Don Cox and Blenn Day officiating. Burial will follow in Frankfort

Hazel Marie Ackley, 83, of 4408 Bosart Road, Springfield, died 7:07 p.m. April 26 in Mercy Medical Center, Springfield.
She was born July 14, 1902, in Frankfort to Samuel and Mary Catherine Haynes Greenlee. In 1919, she married Virgil Ackley. They were long time residents of Frankfort until seven years ago when she went to reside in Springfield with her daughter Peggy Fulk. Mr. Ackley preceded her in death May 31, 1981.
Surviving are seven daughters, Pauline Hutchins and Opal Campbell, both of South Vienna, Peggy Fulk, Mary Heeg and Mildred Welch, all of Springfield, Linda Ropp, Urbana and Juanita Robinson, Frankfort; six sons, Charles, of South Vienna, Bob and Sam, both of Chillicothe, Paul, of Greenfield, Terry and Jim, both of Frankfort; 52 grandchildren; 90 great-grandchildren; nine greatgreat grandchildren; two sisters, Mabel DeWitt, Frankfort, and Goldie Morris, Bloomingburg; a brother, Charlie Greenlee, Mechanicsburg. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a son, a daughter, and four brothers.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Fisher Funeral
Home, Frankfort, with Rev. Don Cox, Rev. Jack Gibson and Rev. Steve
Beigle officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort.
