Visible in this photo, scaffolding is in place for the renovation of the Old Court House. Also, as visible in the placard in this photo, this building was erected in about 1861. The placard goes on to state that the murder of Senator J.W. Stephens here in 1870 led to martial law and the Kirk-Holden "War". Of course, by this time, the BASTIN Family had long since left for Kentucky, and many had even moved North to Indiana, South to Tennessee, and West to Missouri and Kansas.
